Forums - Sony Discussion - Why death of HD-DVD will not impact Blu-ray sales????????

@Jandre002
Consider a 5 year lifecycle for the PS3.
It will take 3 years before the public has bought there HDTV's and want to watch blu-ray. In otherwords Blu-ray is mainstream after 3 years. PS3 is now 1 year old plus 3 years. Ps3 will benefit 1 year from Blu-ray 5 year lifecycle. Blu-ray isn't the mainformat, like DVD was with PS2. It's because DVD existed years before PS2 launch. PS2 sold like hot cakes, because DVD was already popular. Blu-ray launched at the same as PS3. What i'm trying to say is that it takes years before the public adepts a format. In the meantime consoles can't really benefit from it. (maybe some techfreaks that watch the war, but didn't want to make a wrong decission)

So tommorow Bluray sales will boost due to media buzz. I think that O’Donovan means sales will get a bigger boost from Paramount & Universal (wait until march-may), than The news buzz right now.

10 tb=====10.200gbs woow
my computer have 40gb :(
what a shame!!

Yeah 1 tb=1,020gbs. You could get a 500gb external hdd for $100. I'm talking external hdd by the way. A internal one that has 10tbs would cost around 6,000 dollars. Lol that is so much money for a hdd.

When will they let the exclusive studios end their contracts?

 war is over,toshiba lose,they don't need exclusive studios anymore,so ends of the contracts

 they have payed for the exclusivity, if they are going to continue selling them to March, wouldn't they want the exclusivity until March, unless they allow them to buy out.

If I was in Toshiba's position, I would let the studios buy themselves out of the contract because it will recoup some of the losses. What's the point of keeping them exclusive? To piss everyone off?

 I would too, but I certainly would not let them off for free

Sony is very good at what it does. They have slashed prices right when press of the victory has occured according to Videogirl's Reuters article.

I can kind of agree with people when it comes to the average person and high definition television and movies.

In my case, our 10 year old tube SDTV died two years ago and my parents (namely my dad) decided to go for something good. Once we bought it were watching TV on it and I playing my PS3 on it, my dad seemed to find it a little difficult to notice the difference between an HD and SD channel (part of the reason was that of the HD tuner that only works on like two channels so he thought he could tell the difference) and my mom kept complaining that it was too big (it's like over double the size of the screen of the old TV.

Now we have an HD/DVR box and they both show it off to people who want to see it and my family loves watching sports and the Food Channel in HD. For them, it took a little bit to realize the difference, but now they're used to it and loving it.

Hell, when I first got my PS3 and recommended maybe getting a blu-ray movie, my dad was like "Nah, they're too expensive". That is true and I feel that way too, but now he's like "So when are we going to get a blu-ray movie?".

It's a similar story with my aunt and uncle. They got an HDTV as a Christmas gift from their children. At first it was all "We don't need it" and "Our old TV is fine", now along with them and my a few of my Dad's other brothers, it's like a dick waving contest of who has the best TV and who hosts the best get together for a sports/movie event.

 Hilarious and so true for many others out there.

So far the biggest competition for both HD platforms has been DVD and it will still be in the near future. Of course the Netherlands is only a small market, but recently figures for 2007 were published. 32 million DVDs were sold in 2007 compared to 75 thousand for both HD formats combined. That is like 0.25% of the complete market! Maybe in other countries those numbers are a bit better, but still the real money is made in DVD sales, not Blu-Ray or HD-DVD.

Blu-Ray needs more pr0n, that would boost sales.

We'll miss you George.

Erm I dont' quite get this. Does it really matter in the grand scope of things if the benefits happen immediately or later on?

The bottom line is the benefits are locked in TO comein weatehr it be now or later this year.

I'm sorry, am I missing the jest of the article?
