99% 95% of this site will say Nintendo but I will say Sony cause their company as a whole is terrible at making money and most of the products they sell is over-priced and not popular as their competitors and the biggest competitor is Samsung and their products are just so much better for the price (Ps4's isnt the only thing they make guys...) and Sony does not have the money, R&D or marketing to even make a dent is Samsung's share of virtually everything

Wow. Very accurate.

OT: Obviously Sony. As for the gaming divisions on their own though, I'd say they're equal.

I think the comparison is more to wake Sony fans up a little. They are doing worse than we are. Nintendo fans just want Nintendo games that try bold and innovative things without going crazy over graphics or free to play money making scam games. Nintendo is the last true refuge away from the shitstorm that the gaming industry has become.

Nintendo itself will be fine no matter what. They have a line-up of game franchises which every company would kill for. They are losing pennies right now, but so what. The share price is down? That sounds more like a huge opportunity to buy up Nintendo shares than something to worry about.

Sony is the doomed one.

Sony for sure. They have multiple divisions and almost all of them are troubled...

Well Sony can at least lose the divisions that don't make any profit. Nintendo practically only has one division(if you go by their archaic stance that hardware and software belong together) so if that starts losing too much money it's over.

But the most important thing here is that none of those two will stop making consoles and games. If they go bancrupt there will be numerous investors standing by to keep up the business.

I actually agree with this.

Sony, and it has a tough future ahead of it, but as they get rid of loss making divisions, they will do much better. Their first aim will be to make profits, and then to pay their debt. Many factors are in their favor such as the the lower value of the yen.

Archaic?  What was that company I heard about that has a similar stance?  I think they were named after a plant, a fruit maybe?  Orange?  No that's not it...Banana?  Hrmmm....

I jest.

Apple has used that strategy with their iOS to great effectiveness.  Sure, they're not a gaming company, but there are parallels to be drawn.  Nintendo's recent execution of the strategy has been terrible.  They put forward their hardware and expected software to follow, instead of leading with the software.  Software and hardware do belong together BUT software must lead the charge.

To answer the topic's question, SONY is in some trouble, and will have to make changes to survive.  Nintendo is okay for the forseeable future.  They have to make changes as well, but only strategic changes, rather than structural changes like Sony.

Nintendo has billions in the bank and isn't bleeding money, they were just stupid and put their forecast far too optimistically high. Their home console isn't doing as well as it should be, but it will recover given time.

Sony has honestly NEVER made much significant profit off of their gaming division, and they've been bleeding money from other divisions too. They've had mass layoffs, section shut-downs, and now they're getting rid of/detaching from their computer and TV divisions.

I would say Sony's situation has absolutely been more dire than Nintendo's, at any given point.

Obviously Nintendo ... I mean their profits from the 3DS is drying up fast while they have to ride on a console with absolutely no future to boot.

As for Sony they should have dropped their TV division ages ago instead of pouring in billions. It's good that they are separating themselves now but the damage has being done.

If you really believe that, then you obviously aren't really aware of the actual financial status of each company right now.

From the standpoint of a long-time console maker who has just about ONLY made vidoe games for the past 30 or so years, there is nothing at all "archaic" about the philosophy that hardware and software should belong together. By saying that, you're impying that you think Nintendo should go third party, and by extention that you think only big corporations like Sony and MS should be in the hardware business. Which is, I'm happy to say, flat out wrong.

If that's not what you meant, then you might want to clarify better.
