Nintendo has billions in the bank and isn't bleeding money, they were just stupid and put their forecast far too optimistically high. Their home console isn't doing as well as it should be, but it will recover given time.
Sony has honestly NEVER made much significant profit off of their gaming division, and they've been bleeding money from other divisions too. They've had mass layoffs, section shut-downs, and now they're getting rid of/detaching from their computer and TV divisions.
I would say Sony's situation has absolutely been more dire than Nintendo's, at any given point.
