Forums - Microsoft Discussion - What's so great about Titanfall?

Also, there was a disagreement earlier between a Titanfall fan and a user who exhibited an almost neurotic need to prove to him that there was little to no interest in Titanfall in Japan based on weak anecdotal evidence. It's not much, but the week of TGS lots of news outlets were discussing the long lines to play Titanfall, and the general excitement of the game. Here's 2 that get all of the important details:

http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/130104-Titanfall-Devs-Surprised-At-Japans-Positive-Reaction-to-its-Game

A looping trailer of a game is one thing, but a good amount of Japanese gamers have actually been able to play the game. There were long lines non-stop, which is a much better indicator of consumer interest.

And to address the original question. People are hyped for this game because other people are hyped for it. This game has the backing of well known, and not-so-well-known game journalists, devs, and most importantly gamers! Normal people like you and I, with similar interests. They have allowed the hype to spread and the game has kind of spoken for itself.
Additionally, this game embraces 3 very powerful gameplay pillars and does it very well.

1. Fast-Paced First Person Shooting
2. Parkour, freedom of movement, something that is not done very well in many games, especially not shooters (remember Brink?).
3. Mechs, and this is crazy because mech games are almost as nichey (totally a real word) of a genre as bullet-hell shmups.

It's the combination of these elements, matched with the overwhelmingly positive response from journalists (some of whom have been in the industry for more than a decade, and are literally the human manifestation of "been there, done that) that has convinced people that Titanfall is a pretty fresh experience. Given how different it is from a lot of the shooters we have now, we rarely get the opportunity to be excited for the new generation this soon in.

Those may as well be considered awards in nothingness. There's nothing concrete being evaulated or awarded just perceptions and beliefs about the game.

The game industry is hyping it to holy hell for sales, as long as it is percieved to be "OMGNEXTGEN" "BESTHINGOFALLTIME" "REVOLUTION" it will sell, regardless of it's actually inate quality or innovation. We're in an industry where you don't even need to have played the game itself to already label it one of the greatest/important of the gen.

Awards in nothingness? Several game journo's have said great things about this game. People with more experience and knoledge of the industry than you or I. Sure, just a couple, you could wave it off... But the response has been massive. They don't profit from the sales either... So not even sure how you consider that an argument, at all. Based on perceptions and beliefs? Not to much different then critiquing a complete game really...

You haven't played the game, have you?

but....."They made CoD. TF will automatically be good" is just a paraphrasing of "I'm hyped for TF based on the pedigree of the developer in making FPSs". It's the same thing.

I don't get where you were going with that. And the bashing for FFXIII wasn't from Sony fans. It was from reviewers. Because the game wasn't up to par. It's story was boring. The battle system was dumb. The game was linear. These weren't forum goers instigating that. It was reviewers.

Look, CoD fans might be interested in Titanfall for obvious reasons. However, Titanfall is also appealing to people that have little or no interest in CoD. Its just looks unique, lets end on that and stop going in circles.

You mean the same reviewers that helped give that game a 83 on metacritic? There were tons of Sony fans ripping that game apart just because it was on the 360. As if it would have been completely different experience as a PS3 exclusive. Search around the web if you don't believe. It'll be easy to find.

Oh lord, you're bringing back terrible memories. That was a mess dude.
People were entirely convinced that Sqare removed huge chunks of code from the original game, just because it was being released on another console. People who couldn't even name a programming language.
I'm haunted by the thought that there are people out there who still believe this.

I would say that was one of the biggest shitstorms EVER on gaming websites.

Probably since it's an exclusive, people go crazy for exclusives. Not to say it's not warranted, since exclusives are better designed for the system it is on.

Plus it's a brand new FPS on the next generation of consoles.

Yeah, as a console would need one after 6 months...

Biggest for gaming? Or for general shopping? Is it the Walmart of Japan or the Gamestop of Japan?

It's in the central hub of the biggest city in the entire country, a stones throw from otaku-paradise akihabara, and is the most commonly used store in the country for game and console purchases.
