Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Why are eshop games so expensive?

Sony and MS are no different.

It will be a long time before games on the console networks are as cheap as Steam, Google Play, Apple, etc etc.

The answer to your question is Wii U owners have nowhere else to go for games than the eShop.

So the games are basically exactly the same besides for some small graphic changes and analog controls?

That's a rip off and makes me not want to support them games then. Unless, they are exclusive or priced equally why buy them?

Third parties have total control over their own prices on the eShop. If it's not published by Nintendo, it's not a victim of Nintendo's software pricing strategies.

If you want to know why The Cave is priced how it is, you'll have to ask Sega, not Nintendo.

Nintendo doesn't believe in price cuts.

Nintendo does not control third party game prices

congratulations you learned something new!

    R.I.P Mr Iwata :'(

Different markets, different expectations.

Same reason Android has a massive library of free ad-based games while iOS is mostly priced games.

Same reason PC games are $10 less than consoles.

Each market has created its own set of expectations due to their products and uses.

Its always up to the publisher... Don't blame Nintendo since Publishers are the ones responsible for setting the price

I disagree, while Sony and MS arent anywhere near as cheap as Steam, etc. they are still better than eshop as they have weekly sales all the time.

Milking is fun?

Thats not quite true, at least microsoft and sony will lower the price of their games over time.  All the games that came out on wii u at launch are still full price on the eshop.  You can buy batman arkham city at retail for 20-30 bucks, but it still 60 on eshop.  Nintendo also has the crappiest digital sales, where it is pretty much the same games on sale week after week.

On the bright side though, both microsoft and nintendo have made comments recently that they are going to re-evaluate their digital prices.  So maybe things will get cheaper in the future?

The 3DS eshop has price drop sales every week so I always look for those to pick up games I want at cheaper prices. I'm not sure about the Wii U but, you think there would be some on there too.

For example, "The Cave" is $5 on the Apple Store but $15 on the Wii U. I was just wondering if the game is actually of much better quality on the Wii U or if it's just a way to get more money.

Many other games are priced like this as well.

Have an answer?

The Cave is that expensive on every console. The difference is that the iOS economy is shit because everything is dirt cheap. Games need to be a lot cheaper in order to be competitive.

That, and your also paying less for a less graphically advanced, smaller screen experience.
