Forums - Gaming Discussion - Sonic Creator's; "Rodea the Sky Soldier" is over 70% completed.

Yuji Naka’s long lost game is still under development

You might remember Rodea the Sky Soldier, a game who heavily reassembles the original Nights: into Dreamsbut with a more action approach that was announced around the Nintendo 3DS reveal, two and half a years ago. Developed by Yuji Naka’s Prope in collaboration with Kodowaka Games, it was intended to release for Nintendo 3DS and Wii.

Not much more is known about the game, since it flew below the radar pretty fast,in part thanks of the Nintendo 3DS being so young then and the death of the Wii.  Since then, not much was known about the game development. Some time ago, Yuji Naka himself revealed that the Wii version of the game was finished a long time ago, but it was unpublished because Kadowaka Games had still not published it.

That, along with the lack of news about the 3DS version and the amount of other games Prope was working on, like the Digimon RPG for PSP and, more recently, the Nintendo 3DS new Mii Plaza Monster Manor minigame Prope has developed, made everyone thing about the more than probable cancellation of the flying action game.

But seems like the hope of seeing it in our consoles is not over yet. Today, Kodowaka Games president Yoshimi Yasuda revealed in an interview to 4Gamer that the project is not only alive and kicking, but that the Nintendo 3DS version is at a 70% of development. Since the Wii game is heavily based on it’s Wiimote controls, they are still looking for a perfect way to adapt those controls to the portable gaming console, but they are working on it, and we will hear about the game very soon. also, he points that the lack of news about the game is because the gaming media press is just not interested on it ( really?).

Meanwhile we still dream about those familiar blue skies and hope to see it not only released, but also available overseas, you can refresh your mind watching the reveal trailer of the game, from two years ago.

Two years of development time without being able to figure out how the controls will work is not a good sign.

I hope they've decided to add the Wii U to the list of platforms as well. By the time this game is ready for release, the Wii might very well be discontinued.

Did you check out the trailer I just added to the OP?

I watched the trailer two years ago, I don't feel like watching it again right now. Maybe when the game has a release window and isn't in a state of being practically finished, except for the controls which the developer has no clue how to handle.

Rodea is the next Duke Nukem forever.

Well, I broke my temporary VGC abstinence for the sole purpose of saying "WTF IS TAKING SO LONG?"

3DS Friend Code: 0645 - 5827 - 5788
WayForward Kickstarter is best kickstarter: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1236620800/shantae-half-genie-hero

I hope Kodowaka Games' President's idea of soon is the same as mine this time around and I won't have to wait another 2 years before this game is released. Finish up that 3DS version (maybe even port up the Wii version to the Wii U) and release it before the flood of holiday games next year.

I honestly forgot about this game...

Sorry I put that monkey back on your back. (LOL)

Ugh....Yuji Naka is highly overrated. He wasn't even the sole creator of Sonic and was least responsible for how good the older games were. I'm tired of this getting credit for something he really didn't do.
