At this point all we have to go on is that the GC sold quite a bit more than the Wii U at this point. No one is saying one is better, or that the Wii U can't sell better, but at the end of the day we can only go on what we know.

Everything points to the Wii U selling worse. Honestly anyone who says anything different is just in denial or biased...

Wii U's more expensive than GCN ever was, it still has a chance not to butcher Nintendo's key brands the way GCN did, and brands such as Smash Bros and Kart have also grown a great deal since the 6th gen. There are many reasons Wii U could sell better.

Reasons that so far have nothing to show for them...

Gamecube had the best Smash Bros, Mario Kart, 3D Zelda, Paper Mario, Metroid Prime, Animal Crossing, Mario Strikers.

Looking at current sales figures it looks like wii u will sell less than Gamecube but we just don't know what Nintendo will do. The price could keep falling, a revised improved model could come out. Some amazing game is released for it that has huge demand.

Unless 2014 brings a nice surprise, I say it will probably sell the same.

Although thanks to Ellen the Wii U will sell at least 1 million more than the Gamecube

Nintendo and PC gamer

Yeah, no problem. It has already achieved about a quarter of Gamecube's sales and Nintendo isn't making a new console for 5-6 years.

Gamecube was $99 after about 2 years on the market.

I'm thinking Wii U will do over 30 million. Maybe even better if they lose that tablet.

Wii U is already well on its way to having a better library than Gamecube

How do you figure? Gamecube had 10 times the third party support, and it had bad third party support lol.

There, I fixed it for you lol

The fact this is even a discussion is pathetic. Gamecube was a collosal failure. It couldn't even sell at $99. Where history on the Gamecube is being revised is beyond me. The console was a huge joke two gens ago. And here's the funny thing, Gamecube got all the third party games, (minus THE game of the gen GTA) was stronger than PS2 etc. All the things people say Nintendo should be doing now, they did it then to no success.

The Mario Kart game was garbage. The 3D Mario was garbage. The Zelda game was the most polarizing and caused massive blowback. The only game that really shined from Nintendo was Prime (And it sure did shine)

But now you're looking at Wii U, and what have you got? A quirky controller, quirky games, and sequels or Remakes to games no one bought before. You have a 3D Mario that is a kick to the mouth to 2D Mario fans, You have a 2D Mario that is a half assed effort (which is also a kick to the stomach to classic fans, because it coulda been so much more) You have a port of Wii Sports, and the Gamepad is used to see the golf ball?! Who cares?

That aside, Smash looks excellent, That DKC looks excellent. Mario Kart, looks excellent, though I'm not sure I'm into the whole F-Zero thing. Who knows what Zelda will look like, And honestly after Skyward Sword, I've lost all excitement for a Zelda title.

Will the Wii U outsell the failure that was Gamecube?, and this isn't even a joke. As it may or may not outsell it. Coming off the Wii which broke records to this dud is amazing, and utterly baffling.

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.

Yeah I think it can happen. If Nintendo plays their cards right they can turn the tides for the Wii U much like the 3DS.

I couldn't disagree more.  It was sold at a profit.  Did it have disappointing sales and was it beaten bad by the PS2?  Of course.  But anything that is profitable is not a "collosal failure" in my mind.  Oh, and that's just sales.  When it comes to the system itself, the history is not being revised.  People just realize now that it had some awesome games and it was a great system, like the Dreamcast.  Heck, it was the last Nintendo console to have competitive specs.  And it had some of the greatest games of all time.  Wink Waker was polarizing at the time, but now it's looked at as one of the top Zelda games and top games of the last decade.  Smash was loved by fans, Metoid Prime was amazing (both of them), Mario Sunshine was underrated, both Resident Evil 4 and the Remake were top notch, F-Zero GX was awesome, and it saw the birth of some key franchises like Animal Crossing, Luigi's Mansion, and Pikmin.  It could have sold 10 units and these games wouldn't have been any less good.
