Forums - Sales Discussion - Wii U vs PS4 vs XOne - First Weeks

Seeing the VGChartz Gap Charts articles, I was expecting to see an actual sales comparison between consoles in their first weeks. Since that was not the case, I decided to do it myself. Here are the charts for USA and Europe (the main regions where the 3 consoles have already been launched):

I know there are stock issues for PS4 and XOne but these 2 graphics give me already a good idea of what to expect in the long-term for this generation. In the USA, there will be a close battle between Sony and Microsoft while the Wii U will lag behind. In Europe, PS4 will dominate while XOne and Wii U will dispute the 2nd place.

What do you honestly think? I want this thread to be as informative as possible. Please keep the flamewars away.

Hm... yeah it gives a little look into what might happen. PS4 and Xbone are going to battle in America, whilst PS4 will totally kill Europe. Wii U will struggle in both Europe and America but i think it might still catch on bit. (at least gamecube level of sales)
In Japan it's different again. Xbox is irrelevant and Nintendo could win some share against the PS4.
I really have no idea about future sales of PS4 and Xbone though. Could be the hype and they might drop off a bit (not to Wii U level but they sure will)

Any "global" comparison, despite Wii U being released in japan too?

I think Wii U will   win in Japan.. PS4 will come close  though.. Meanwhile  the Xbox One will bomb like evry MS console in Japan... History will simply repeat itself.

Well the last generation wasn't so straightforward, considering the success of the Wii. So I'm kind of expecting something unexpected to happen, which means I don't expect Sony to win the generation

I love My Wii U, and the potential it brings to gaming.

it toke 4 week to wiiu come to japan. So will not change a thing.

"Hardware design isn’t about making the most powerful thing you can.
Today most hardware design is left to other companies, but when you make hardware without taking into account the needs of the eventual software developers, you end up with bloated hardware full of pointless excess. From the outset one must consider design from both a hardware and software perspective."

i don't see that happening, jus no way, the wii only beat ps3 by 3 million, how is the wiiu gonna beat ps4, when its way better priced then ps3, wil have huge thirdparty support, is a small console and the wiiu is selling like crap in japan despite having a good holiday, it still way behind vita in sales.

I called a 45/55 percent split at most in North America between the XO and PS4 months ago and I'm sticking with that. It's going to be close. Europe, the PS4 should win by a comfortable margin. Japan, the PS4 will win out over the Wii U once the third-party titles start rolling out. Japan is extremely trend oriented, though, so a big hit by Nintendo or a partner could possibly make it a close race or even give Nintendo the edge.

The fight for third-party exclusives in Japan is going to be fierce. I don't really understand why but many of the big Japanese publishers like to release on only one console. Nintendo scoring a big franchise could be key. However, the PS4 should retain many of their exclusives from the PS3 generation, so they should do well regardless.

Didn't the XOne launch in fewer European countries? I'm not saying it would cause a massive boost in sales, but Xbox isn't in all the territories Sony and Nintendo are in.

Won bet with t3mporary_126 - I correctly predicted that the Wii U's LTD at the end of 2014 would be closer to 9 million than 10 million. http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=6673287

Animal Crossing and Pokemon will most likely help the Wii U A LOT... Other games like Tropical Freeze, MK6, Smash Bros 4, etc... will also  help.
