Cause Sony is awesome

Compared to Nintendo Sony have much more at stake and so much more to lose. A sinking titanic is harder to salvage than a sinking sailboat. Microsoft, well that is a different story. They have so much money they don't know what to do with it. Billions upon billions. This is why in the long run Xbox One is a safer bet for remaining in tact. Sony's gaming division might ultimately end up being sold off which is sad really. I expect the company will be broken up eventually.

youve literally missed my entire point and what you said had nothing to do with what im saying. The more a console sells, more the support it will get, period. Whether that be SOny and they loose money on every console sold or whatever is not relevant as it does not effect the support it gets, which as gamers i would have thought that was the most important thing. Your statement is best saved for another subject entirely. |
3rd party support is great for gamers but when we are talking about the future of Sony, it means very little. Sure Sony gets a small cut but the ammount of money they are losing on 1st party titles will outweigh that by alot. The Vita is the best example of why Sonys terrible 1st party sales are going to eventually kill their company. No one wants it because the 1st party games are all rehashes, and the 3rd party developers know their games are going to sell terribly on it anyways. Wii U has 3rd party support from some companies (Ubisoft,Sega,Warner Bros,Activision) but the 1st party stuff alone can sell consoles. Problem is that Nintendo released nothing for 8 months are their sales suffered big time because of it.
Nintentacle said: Whenever I see articles about how the Wii U is doomed, lots of the writers talk about Sony like they never loose money and are perfect. It's like they're completely ignoring how much money the PS3 lost. Does anyone here know why people do this? |
Because they don´t understand what financial management, economic environment and business decisions means. Every main console maker either had financial issues last year or still couldn´t recover from previous years´ losses.
Videogame fans, with the exception of a few, really don´t care about those things

The way for them to not do good this gen is to move 90 - 100 million consoles (which bring in no profit) and then have terrible 1st party software sales like the PS3 had. PS3's 1st party software levels are only 20 million better then the Gamecube's, with about twice as many games. They turned the PS3 console sales arround but then the only games people bought were COD,FIFA, and GTA.

Explain why you don't think Wii U will reach 30 million. I think it'll barely outsell the N64. |
Looking at current figures, it's tracking behind the Gamecube, that reached a little more than 20m (I will use it as comparison). I think Nintendo will improve it with some key releases and price cuts (this time, the competitors are more expensive) and it can help them to, maybe, reach 30m. That's what Wii U has at its favor compared to GC. The negative points are lack of core appeal, less power, weird controller, worse online, less features, while GC had parity on all of it.

So they failed one gen after domintaing 2. Still 66% oversuccess. And the no-profit part with the yen inflation is quite undestandable, they couldn't see it coming, nobody could.

Today is the one month mark, actually. |
Not entirely since it was released on the 29th for us in Europe.
