Forums - Sales - PS4 Officially Sells Out in South Africa Within 24 hours (Fastest Selling in the History)

I can see another good week for Sony.

Ster Kinekor Entertainment, the South African distributor of PlayStation in South Africa, has just announced that the PlayStation 4 has sold out around the country within 24 hours of going on sale at midnight on December 12th, 2013.

Ster Kinekor says that this makes the PS4 “the fastest selling console in Ster Kinekor Entertainment history,” according to the company’s most recent sales figures, which has in the past distributed the original PlayStation, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, PSP and PS Vita.

CEO of Ster Kinekor Entertainment, Mario Dos Santos said of the achievement:

“It has been an interesting road full of surprises this last year in the lead up to the PS4 announcement and we are ecstatic that we’ve broken a SKE record with these sales thanks to our loyal customers and stakeholder support. The demand continues to overwhelm supply, but we’re working extremely hard to get PS4 consoles into the hands of customers as quickly as possible.”

nice job. South Africa is the biggest economy in Africa.

These are some of the areas that I believe VGC struggles to track

But I guess it's good, we all know there is huge demand for the PS4 and nowhere near enough supply

Yes, yes, I would be surprise of Sony shiping more to a country with 1/6 of Brazil GDP and 1/4 of our population.

South Africa is one of the countries I would have sold the Xbox one from day One if I would be Microsoft. It's a "big" and  growing economy with a big population. I'm sure numbers for last gen consoles and now PS4 will be higher than most might think there.

There are a lot of very poor people but that also means that there are many with enough money to reach the economical status they have.

With the NPD data out Sony sold 300k units between Canada, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Panama and Peru... can you guess how much of these 300k come to Brasil?

I'm sure Brasil is the third country from these to receive more supply... Canada > Mexico > Brasil > Others.

New Zealand received 25K PS4s, we have less than 1/10th the GDP and ~1/50th the population of Brazil.
