Forums - Gaming Discussion - Why are some Nintendo fans so opposed to going third party?

RazorDragon said:
Because it's more likely for Sony to go third-party than Nintendo based on their finances.

Are you serious? nintendo relies on the video game industry, while sony relies on other areas.

Even based on finances, nintendo will go third party long before sony.

I don't see the problem with them making a few games 3rd party, not stuff like smash brothers or pokemon that are strong enough exclusives to move platform sales, but dying nintento series like mario, or make a 3rd party version of an individual nintendo classic, They would sell like hot cakes.........thats if they need money though, no point doing it if they don't need a boost but I think they are getting close to needing one,

Mario is considered a dying franchise now? :O

if knack out sells it I guess. I am not familiar with it's recent sucess or failure as it is dying in my own personal interest. the last mario game I have played was sunshine. all the while I stayed current on the pokkemon, zelda and smash bros series. thats how my opinion was formed.

^Yes that's me ripping it up in the GIF. :)

1. I like Nintendo hardware

2. Nintendo games often benefit from having specifically designed hardware

3. Sega may still be around, but it's generally agreed that they declined after trying the same thing

4. Why should Nintendo have to go 3rd party? They're the only real games company in the hardware business!

Love and tolerate.

Well Knack outselling it is certainly a very bad sign... But I wouldn't call it a dying franchise. Too bad you never played another Mario game after Sunshine though. I heard Sunshine sucked balls :/.

Sonic Lost World vs. Super Mario 3D World. That's why. Quality will decline. The games will end up on Android and Iphones in diluted and crappy quality.

And frankly, neither Sony nor Microsoft deserve to have Nintendo games on their consoles. They wouldn't be in the business if Nintendo had not helped make home consoles so popular.

Nintendo should let Disney buy them before going third party. The problem is that they are focused on gaming only. When you have a console bomb and another doing awesome, but still facing competition from smartphones/tablets, you are at risk, and it could only get worse. Sony and Microsoft are massive corporations that can allow their gaming units to lose money, which happened for years until recently.

Nintendo needs their games to sell console, if this reason d'etre would give out, quality will surely be compromised.
Also a lot of their least lucrative IPs (like Pikmin, Fire Emblem, maybe even Metroid) would likely get abandoned or adulterated.

Aren´t you the one who claimed to have some inside information from Nintendo ?

Yeah, why shouldn´t Nintendo just go third party ?

It´s not like every single company which exited the console business is either dead now(Hudson,Atari), or a shadow of it´s former self (SEGA)

What could possibly go wrong ?

Sony is in a much worse financial state than Nintendo, in fact, mostly thanks to it's other areas. So, yes, I'm serious.

Nintendo should rather close shops before they are abought by Disney.

Disney isn´t interested in high quality homeconsole games, they closed the grand majority of their internal non-Iphone studios over the years and rather churn crappy mobile games and Not-Skylanders out.

There are worse fates than death, and this would be one of them.

The same for Microsoft.
