How Well Do You Think Nintendo's Wii Did Overall?

Wii clearly Dominated the 7th Gen 95 65.52%

Even though it may have w... 40 27.59%

Wii really shouldn't be ... 10 6.90%

Total:145

Wii was successful businesswise. The Wii made by far the most money of the 3 home gaming systems in the 7th generation, and even if the PS3 would go on to oustell the Wii in the long run (since Sony systems tend to have long legs), Wii would still be the most successful one out of the bunch, economically.

Sony and Microsoft might have made less overall, but they destroyed Nintendo in overall third party sales.

If you look at this long term, then Sony and Microsoft may have fared better (for their future business) but if you isolate the 7th gen and look at that, Wii was the most profitable one (for it's manufacturer) by far. That's all I'm saying.

I think Wii Should have done a lot better, but Nintendo made some dumb mistakes. If it had had a slight power increase, and included motion plus from the start, it would have had a longer lifespan. Nintendo also killed it in it's last year, really if they supported it right, it would have sold MUCH more.

How well do you think Nintendo's Wii did overall?  You often hear it said that Wii won the 7th Console Generation; however, how desisive do you think its win was overall?  Some stats to help you reach your conclusion.  Even though it was the only 7th Gn Console to sell anywhere near 100 Million Consoles ( it just barely did that and it's not likely to sell much more ) by comparison's sake the winner of the Preceding Generation, Sony's Playstation 2, sold over 50 Million Consoles.

With the possible exception of Japan ( where Sony's Playstation 3 still has a longshot chance to pass Wii) Nintendo's Wii failed to win one of the major territories as it will be passed in North America by Xbox's 360 and in Europe by Sony's Playstation 3.   And Wii failed by a large margin to gain 50% of the 7th Gen's console market space.  By comparison, Playstation 2 won all three 6th Generation territories and captured over 50% of the 6th Gen's Console Marketshare.

Lastly, years after Wii games had stopped selling and / or being developed in any significant numbers excellent games for its two competitors Microsoft's Xbox360 and Sony's Playstation 3 each and every week.

So, how well do you think Nintendo's Wii really performed?  Did it dominate the 7th Gen as its staunchest supporters frequently say or do you think it's early success and quick burnout really do indicate that Wii was just a fad?

Um, amazingly? Over 100 million consoles and ovef 900 million games.  It still managed to sell 70,000 last week.

How is that not amazing?

The top two bestselling games last week were Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 games ( by several million copies) and its two direct 7th Gen competitors more than doubled and tripled the Wii in sales last week.  That never happened to PS1 or PS2 after the conclusions of the 5th and 6th gens.

it still has 20 million consoles sold more than the other two. and compare the software releases. Wii had 9 games sell over 10 million, all first party.
Most of pS3's best selling games are call of duty.

and? First party titles make the company more money.

C´mon.. is there any point in discussing this ?
Like it or not, the Wii is the device of the 7th generation that sold most. Period.
If its hype and appeal with consumers lasted less than the others, it´s a different story. Wii had its moment, then Xbox360 and PS3 had theirs.

It obviously won 7th gen, but I can't help but feel that it may have screwed Nintendo over in the long run, particularly with third party multiplatforms.

It did spectacularly well.
It's one of the highest selling consoles of all time, it made Nintendo a metric fuckton of money, and it changed the face of gaming.

Like the console itself; outstanding, but still far under its potential
