Why not just be super impressed with both?

And if MS had 3 million to sell world wide they would have sold 3 million at launch. Whats your point? At this stage in the game they are still even until supply catchs up with demand. All you have is wishfull thinking at this point. Something fanboys everywhere get when they want to see the other guy go down in flames. Personally I'm happy Sony sold a million because before E3 I was concerned they would not do very good this gen and we would be looking at the real possibility of no PS5. My concerns are put to rest. Now I  want to see the Xbox One recover because if we loose MS from the marketplace there will be no reason for Sony to step up their game next gen. Since we are all gamers, we should stop bashing each other and support Sony, MS and Nintendo. If any of these manufactures leave the market, we all loose. I feel real good about both Sony and MS now just wish Nintendo sales would start to pick up. Based on how much dust mine has been collecting I'm worried :(

Yours is an if that could never happen.  Mine is one that could happen if Sony chose to have it happen.  That fact is Sony has way more supply.  My point was some think the launches are on the same level, when they are not.

And I'm not worried at all about Sony being on top.  They were for the PS1 and PS2 era and never got lazy with releasing quality games for their players.  Nor did they just drop support to give 100% to their new console.  They would do the same this gen, even if they end up 20M+ ahead of the One.  Personally, I think MS has brought more negatives to the console business than they have positives, so I wouldn't really mind if it became an only Sony/Nintendo biz.

Maybe SEGA could return to bussiness *-*

And I'm favorable about the phrase "A scenario where Sony dominates is best for the industry"

I wouldn't mind Sega coming back.  Doubt they would, though.  I think they enjoy not having to worry with the hassle of HW launches.  They would also have make sure they don't make poor decisions like they did during the Genesis and Saturn era.

Here's my feeling...

The X1 is the underdog and it still managed to move 1 million units in one day. No need to downplay its success.

This is good, that means Sony still needs to act like they have competition.

Maybe they could do like Nintendo and graphically stay one generation behind Sony and/or MS... but that would be great for everybody... Imagine if they picked from Dreamcast, made a 300 dollars x86 console to have their games... I would buy it.

They are the same. If MS decided to launch in NA only, they would still sell over a million. It's all limited by stock for both companies right now.

I somehow doubt that. You're basically implying that M$ produced an almost identical ammount to Sony overall, but just divided it up a lot more. I'm 99% sure they shipped the same ammount of units throughout the US as Sony, if not more, seeing as that's their strongest region (or used to be...). They just didn't sell more becuase there's less interest in the XBone in that region than the PS4. Just wait for the PS4 to release in the rest of it's regions, and it's going to skyrocket past XBone, even though it's probably done that already.

Ok so this is great news for me! I was able to pick up my PS4 at 12:30AM at my Local Best Buy. Figuring it would be just as easy I showed up at the same Best Buy on Xbox One release night 12:30 and they did not have any Xbox One's left! So then the next morning I called around to 3 GameSops, Looked on website at all the local Best Buys, Walmart, Target and KMart and could not find a single Xbox One left. If you logic is correct then there should be an Xbox One or as U like to call it XBone somewhere sitting on a shelf I can buy. If you would I would appreciate if you could take a look in the Chester County PA area and FIND ONE FOR ME!

I appreciate your education on how there are more Xbox Ones sitting on shelves waiting to buy. Let me know when you find it somewhere, I will run out to that local store and pick it up.

I cant get over how stupid people are on here. It makes no difference they launched in a number of countries it sold out everywhere. Stock is the limiting factor as it was with ps4. Seriously some people on here are painfully stupid.

The funny thing is all the Sony noobs were saying it would take 5 weeks to reach a million sale no stock, no demand no pre orders. When it's obvious it's sold just as well as the ps4 with similar launch stock available. The only difference is Sony is so worried about how badly they are are doing in the biggest market in the world with the ps3 they bottled it and sent all the stock over to America instead of having the confidence to launch in a number of major territories.

What is most impressive is the the xbox one as achieved these numbers with a console costing so much more than the ps4.

You are wrong my friend. If this were a PS4/Nintendo race Sony would not have given you the console they created. They would have no competition to worry about and would give you less for more. Based on the amount of ANTI consumer DRM patients they own you would also have a much more restrictive DRM policy. The only reason why they upped their game was because Microsoft is in the business. They looked at MS watched what they did and did everything better. Not because they love you but because they needed to survive. I was an EB Games Manager and remember Sony's Anti consumer strong arm policies back in the PS2 days. There was a time when they were much more arrogant. They learned their lesson and are now (Perceived) pro consumer the nice guy to survive. Mark my words, you take MS out of the picture and Sony will go back to their arrogant attitude towards the consumer. More competion is always better when it comes to consumer electronics. It always drives innovation and in the end we win.

John

If there is anything that really amazed me about the Xbox One's launch when compared to the PS4's NA only launch, the Xbox One sold over 1 million units on the first day with a $500 price tag compared to the PS4 selling over 1 million units with a $400 price tag.

The One had a really good launch. It's just going to be completely dwarfed by the PS4 when we get its EU numbers.

To those saying they are the same because MS would have sold 1M if it only launched in NA, that's a silly comparison. If Sony relocated all of their supply to NA, instead of launching in 20+ other countries next week, they probably would have sold ~3M.

This. So much this
