A that price you can fly to the US just to get one, and fly back, and it would still cost less.

Alternatively, you can legally import one for $712. You just need Amazon and an international credit card. Not sure what the hell they were thinking. The price of the games is more or less fair, though, if you aren't going to the US.
So we can compare the X360 oficially launched in the end of 2006 by R$2,999 - Premium version with a faceplate, a remote and three Platinum Hits. New games retailed for R$159 and older titles for R$ 99. Currency exchanges were more or less the same.
I'm no fan of them but I'm sure in this case Microsoft tried harder than Sony.
Wow that's such a ridiculous price...why is it so much more than the X1? Tariffs vs. no tariffs for the X1 can't be the only reason for this.

Yeah, that one too. But I'm under the impression this is the first time Sony is oficially launching a new console on the market, bar manufacturing a few old PS2s and PS3s, so I tried to compare with MS's first offering back then.
That's...that's a lot of money alright.
I'm sure that the XOne will do pretty well with the difference in price then.
IT IS NOT ONLY TAXES.
And we dont need to wait Wii U prices to understand. The PS3 price before the manufacturing in Brasil was R$1400,00
at a U$250,00 price in USA. If we double that (R$2800), we would still have a higher price than the U$400 in USA, that is less than double 250.
It is R$1800,00 more expensive than Xbone.
The new price will be announce 24th October together with preorders.
Day one.
