If the government does shut down, it won't be for long. The same cynical manipulation that manufactured this crisis will resolve it, in the end.

At this point, it might be time for the US to reconsider the congressional structure. Perhaps fewer representatives, longer terms, and more clear-cut rules. And maybe some work on the Constitution while they're at it.

These turkeys are spending money we don't have, to the tune of 17.4 trillion and counting...with no end in sight until we hit a Greece-like monetary crises.

Don't worry, the military will still get paid, FAA air traffic controllers will still have to work, SS checks will still go out in the mail. So what if the national parks are temporarily closed.

Besides, all workers will be paid in full once this side show ends, my guess is that it will be over by Friday.

Finally, there is no chance that either party wants to be responsible for a debt default - we will see a debt ceiling deal before Oct. 15. - at least by the day before.

BTW, I've had some money on the side for the past few months....here's to picking up some some closely watched stocks for a bargain !!!

The blame game here is incredible. One side refuses to even THINK about a compromise (the president) and the other says they want one and everyone knows they dont (the house). Its crazy.

If only the government shutdown actually affected the people who are going to do it...Id be 100% for it. Right now, I just want the government to feel some pain and get the fuck over themselves.

The thing is that most of the Government will still function even in the event of a shut-down I.E Military, Congress, etc....

Thats the problem with being part of an organization that makes laws to 1) give themselves raises and 2) to always get paid.

Its bullshit.  Have the Senator vote on the houses raise/pay and vice versa.

Or tie their salary to a budget surplus. If they run a deficit, they don't get paid. Something like that could be an incentive...
