Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Microsoft on Xbox One Vertical Orientation: 'Do it at your own risk'

Panello stated that Microsoft discovered that "we found, interestingly enough, that 80 percent of people, believe it or not, have their Xbox [360] horizontally".

I have a hard time believing that since every 360 ad has it vertical. People who aren't core gamers have the perception that's how the system should go.

It has a hard-drive so I will use it like MS intended when I buy Xbone, just like I did with every computer I had and have.

Hard Drives don't care if they are mounted horizontally, vertically or even upside down or even loosly hanging via a cable. :)

jeah. i've been thinking of placing my ps4 vertically cause i think it's design only looks cool vertical, but i fear that my cat or my future (drunk) self will destroy it.

must-have-list for platforms i don't own yet:

WiiU: Donkey Kong

XBone: Dead Rising 3, Ryse

Given how they work I have a bad feeling when they are not operated horizontally. With an ssd I couldn't care less, of course.

it would look pretty stupid otherwise since it's build to use it only horizontally. same as if you would use a rectangular receiver vertically.

ps4 or 360 are build to look also good vertically but this not so not sure who wants to do it.

not sure but does it have some small feets on the bottom? it would look even worse then lol.

most people put the console below their tv  where they also have the other stuff like the receiver. especially in the living room of people who are not big gamers ot tech enthusiasts they rather like to hide all the technical equipment.

Kinect 1.0 spies just as well as Kinect 2.0 confirmed.

Considerng the Wii, PS3, PS4 and WiiU all have slot loading drives I onder what the real reason is. If it because it will damage the discs then they obviously went real cheap on the drives again.

Guess it won't be long until it releases and people place it vertical. We will know by then.

Edit - Well, he said it would damage the console, not the discs, so now I REALLY wonder what the reason is. Why did he feel the need to mention overheating?
