Forums - Gaming Discussion - Enough on GTA 5 controversies and Call of Duty hype. I am sticking with Pacman!

I have had enough.

I see suspect individuals calling on a reviewer for being fired (and the outlier stupid people that are part of GTA 5's fanbase), and then harping on the reviewer's gender/orientation.  I see stuff like Call of Duty get hyped up, and torn down.  I see people who have too much time on their hands end up getting all excited over stuff that doesn't matter. I see other things like one reviewer talk how GTA 5 is going to be viewed as a landmark game over 200 years from now, comparing it to like the work of Dickens or something.   I am seeing people taking stuff way too seriously.  Throw in also the secret sauce nonsense, and grasping at straws and worrying how a game MUST run ay 60 FPS in 1080p.  I don't want to drop $400+ for a new system, heckeven $300.  I am fed up of no backwards compatibility.

I am fed up of online play and teens trolling with sexual orientation with those they have issues with.  I am just fed up.

None of what I am seeing makes me want to jump on next gen at all.  I am feel like sticking old school at least, so I don't have to see any of this.  In short, I am real close to being done with it all.  Just give me my retro games and boardgame stuff, and also maybe throw in some Indie stuff, and I will call it a day.

Maybe someone can show me otherwise, but I am done.  I think it is time for me to work at getting a life.  Tonight it is Civ the boardgame by Fantasy Flight.

Sorry, no GTA 5.  I don't care if it is great social commentary.  I just don't enjoy doing crimes in a fantasy world at all.

For the love of Kaz... how many times a month do you quit?

Oh yeah. And

WHERE'S YOUR PAC MAN NOW?

Do whatever you see fit, my friend. I broke down and bought GTA just now. I am not regretting it so far.

How dare people question the value of GTA. Damn people we are in front of gaming's citizen kane moment.

Just posting that I have more ammo for my reason to quit.  I am in a quit state at this moment, and just saying I am not seeing enough come back to end up quitting.

Also, here is the thing, I have 50 other options besides Pacman.  I can do the Donkey Kong or go Berzerk.

Didn't the Last of Us get the "Ctizen Kane" accolade? LOL

It was sarcastic. GTA 5 is overrated as fuck.

With the videogame side, it seems like any competently put together game with decent story, acting and so on, if it is on the serious side (and not an action flick style game like Uncharted) it will get compared by someone to "Citizen Kane".  There is this hope that games can break through and be taken more seriously.

You are cool Richardhutnik, in how you open your heart and you're open about all your problems in life. I wish more people were like you instead of just nervously protecting their pride and integrity all the time.

Now more specifically this thread was about games and next gen in particular. I wonder, isn't there really any current gen HD games and upcoming games that you are excited about? There has to be something. I think I have seen you being excited for (or at least genuinely interested in) quite a few HD games in the past.

(by HD I mean typical PS360 core games, in contrast to traditional Arcade and Nintento games)

I have broken from the whole get hyped up cycle, due to limited funds, and have had to view it from a bit on the outside.  I factor in the costs of everything also, and ask if it is worth it.  I now have every reason to have excuses to not jump in.  For me, it is a case of getting perspective.  And for me, I get interested in Indie stuff more, because I relate to the designers.  I also do more boardgame stuff.

With myself, I don't even have a PS3 or 360 now.  And the Wii is gone.  I would have to jump in again.  I still have memories of the piles of unplayed games I had back then, and wondered if it would be worth it again.

And all this console partisan nonsense on specs, with secret sauce talk, people commenting on GTA 5 reviewer's sexuality and also dislike of some issues, and so on.  I am just fed up.  More I look into the area of modern gaming, more I see the dregs of reality.  For me, I find retro and off beat indie stuff has more niceness to it among the fans.  I mean, like chat on my CADERS Facebook group.  There isn't console wars, but looking back at old stuff and discussing and having a good time.  I need far more of that and less of sexual orientation taunts found in Call of Duty.  I also don't need more disembodied voices playing as AIs in relationship to me. I want to meet people.  It could be years of perspective on a genre makes for less being a jerk and overhyping stuff.  Also drought in a given genre for content also lends towards this.

On the integrity side, I find that being genuine is the best way to have integrity.  I don't really care if I impress at all actually.  I also try not to air everything repeatedly now.  I am just trying to get a life here.
