Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

I love the games I love.

While i may buy games intending to play them, instead i may get distracted by Tecmo Superbowl or RTK8 or some other game I want to start a new game of, then by the time I want to play a new game again, there is another game i'd rather play that's cheap.

I have backlogs cause I buy too much games tbh. When I see a game that interests me I buy it. That's a problem I guess^^

There's too many awesome deals that might not even happen again, and so little time to play all those games.

Multiple reasons already mentioned by other people, but one big factor is that the hype starts to die as soon as I have the game in my hands.

Typically it goes from

"how am I gonna survive waiting for this amazing experience?"

to

"how am I gonna force myself to work through this boring game?"

I just take my time with games thats all. I spent just over a week playing The Last of Us. Normally 2 or 3 hours every night.

But i also buy alot of games when they become cheap, combine that with multiple consoles and the games soon stack.

Xbox One, PS4 and Switch (+ Many Retro Consoles)

Prediction: Switch will sell better than Wii U Lifetime Sales by Jan 1st 2018

I believe people have the intention of completing most games they buy, at least that is the case for me. And I will buy a game I am interesting in playing even if I have a backlog at that moment. In most cases it is due to a sale where it is too good to pass up. Buy 2 get 1 free at Best Buy and Gold Box deals on Amazon are the biggest culprits for me. And every now and then small game bundles on Ebay.

combination of sales or seeing super cheap games that have wanted, games taking unexpectedly longer to play through (Borderlands 1,2, Castlevania LoS), 2-3 times per gen getting addicted to a multiplayer, (NBA JAM: OFE and BFBC2 I'm looking at you), and PS+.

If there is a game I like but I don't have time to play it, I will buy after a price drop but before it turns into the ugly greatest hits packaging.

I use to never have a backlog, that changed this generation, why?

Three things

1. Have far more disposable income than in the past
2. Games are far cheaper than they use to be
3. I am much busier with life and work

So, I think I am still getting use to the fact that "yeah, that game is only $5 and that means much less to you than in 2003, but will you ever get around to playing it?" Honestly, if a game is in the $5-$10 bargain bin really hard for me to pass it up even though may not touch it for a year. I mean, how much cheaper could it ever be?
