Of course, that's how it is with every console.

(Oh wait, except the Wii U which is magically maxed out from day one *rolls eyes*)

Why bring up the Wii U?

Why bring up the Wii U?

Just pointing out a double standard. It's edited now.

As for PS4, it kinda goes without saying that it will take a while for games to full exploit the architecture, it always does with new hardware. We will see it tapped faster than the PS3 though, as it will be much easier to develop for.

Za Powah of teh PS4 doesn't matter at all if the same games that are on PS3 are played on PS4 what we need is fresh game ideas.

Of course, just like every console in existence (yes, including WiiU, unlike popular belief -.-)

Unlike WiiU,

Because it's based on a derivative of a ten years old cpu architecture wich has been worked around in every way for many years. It's still a very close relative to the gamecube cpu with just more caches, cores and frequency. gpu is nothing new here, it's basically a "Xenos 7 years after" with very few enhancements after all this time. lack of main bandwidth is a step backward, even compared to current generation. It's basically what makes the multi platform titles struggling on this console when it should have been a formality.

Input bandwidth, raw shading power, and pixel output (fillrate) are the 3 pillars of rendering performance, WiiU doesn't specially shine in any of the main 3. It's still very close to PS360 levels, when not worse.

PS4 and X1 have highly asynchronous compute architecture, they are very gpu centric console with lots of potential waiting to be tapped in that particular field. They will be the new referent for the next 5 years or so.

Umh, not sure why is this news, he said that months ago, starting with that Gamasutra interview in April...easy to start working with (just like with usual PCs), few years (middle of lifecycle) til all additional stuff is fully appreciated.

What is he supposed to say? "We maxed it out at launch" There would be a line of people returning the PS4 within 30 days of purchase. 3 years from now we will hear how developers are just starting to figure out the system. 5 years from now, we will hear how the developers are finally getting close to fully taking advantage of the systems power. 7 yrs from now they will say that we finally have taken advantage of the power of the PS4, about the same time the PS5 is either launched or whatever. It's all marketing speak after the first 18 months.

PS4 has a lot of untapped power in the form of the GPGPU, 64 Compute queues, and hUMA architecture. And he's right, it will take a while to tap into that specialized hardware fully. Similar to PS3 but not as challenging this time.

"These are the highest quality pixels that anybody has seen"

Wow, Cerny is really a genius! I already said it at GAF, we don't need him for this, everybody knows.
