No. Do you remember Tony Hawk, NBA Live, or Medal of Honor? Not many years ago it was bigger than CoD.

Probably not. If Mario can last three decades I think other franchises are good to go. In the case of Mario he is like the Mickey Mouse of video games. Mickey is so iconic he has lasted. The same should happen with Mario.

Mickey was actually who I was going to bring up as support that these franchises COULD die. Mickey may still be around but his popularity is so far below what it was decades ago that for the purposes of this discussion he would be considered 'dead'.

So, do you think certain franchises just can't die off due to their big appeal throughout the years? Franchises like mario(whatever the most popular one is lol), halo, and gran turismo to name a few. Will they be here for years to come. The only example I can think off that has fallen from glory would be sonic, he def doesn't have the appeal he use too. So what do you think?

Crash Bandicoot use to sell a solid 7 million with each game just on the PS1. Now there has not been another Crash Bandicoot game for 5 years and I have yet to hear any solid information about another being in development.

When I die, Mario dies. I can't rest in peace knowing that there are Mario games that I won't get to play. I can't.

Nothing is too big to die. There is no such thing as a "Mario killer" or "CoD killer" game, but mismanagement by the company could kill these big franchises. All it takes is a few bad games. Or sometimes, overuse is the killer.

Mario is the Mickey Mouse of gaming, doubt to ever see him disappear. Halo was the franchise that created Call of Duty on consoles and Gran Turismo is one of the first best racing sim.

Yeah, they may not die off anytime soon.

Don’t follow the hype, follow the games

Here a little quote I want for those to keep memorize in your head for this coming next gen.

I don't know even if the big three left the console market I'm sure someone would be willing to buy Halo, Gran Turismo, and Mario.

They're so iconic they can passed on for generations

Proud gamer of Nintendo and Sony consoles since 2003.

I dont see any of these 3 dying odd. Sonic on the other hand is overrated.

Sonic is the right answer. If the developers or publishers lose sight of what makes their series important, it can easily and quickly fall to total irrelevance.

The only saving grace being that a powerful brand *can* recover even from serious missteps or just a middling period of irrelevance. Tomb Raider bounced back neatly (despite Square Enix's over-lofty expectations), and Sonic is on the slow road to recovery after the twin disasters of Shadow and Sonic 06, precisely because the brands both have a lot of clout allowing people to give them a chance even after being burned (or merely bored) a few times.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.
