Is 10 dollars that much? I mean you get a game for 10 dollars, and in the Argentina PSN store we get Dead Space 3 for 90 dollars? Seriously?

I feel for you, this is one of the reasons I'm always slow to complain about prices some times.

I'm not sure I can disagree with your logic anymore than I already do, I will say this though.

When FF7, 8, 9, MGS 1 all realeased on PSN, they stayed on the N/A region's top downloads for weeks respectively

Ok, but do you know the numbers ? I don't think so. Because nobody really does oustide of Sony internal guys.

That's the whole problem with the psn. Nobdoy know the numbers.

But coming from devs and video games names, the Psn IS weak in sale number. Heck, even Journey wich had break the psn sales record struggled to reach the level of sales needed and do not tell me this game costed more than 1 or 2 millions to make.

oh my goodness

okay, I can see that this is not a conversation I want to have because I hate talking about sales figures (inb4VgchartzIsallaboutthesaleslikeitorlumpit)

But I will say this:

A game doesn't need to sell 10million copies to be considered a success.

E.g: Hotline Miami recently celebrated numbers of less than 500k on psn and considered that a success.

ThatGameCompany went bankrupt whilst making Journey, but then were back up and running the first week of Journey being on PSN because they had made back more than they used to make the game in the first week ALONE.

And you were speaking about goodness ? I should be the one who complain about your stories.

Journey dev only begin to make profit recently mate :

"Lastly. This pretty much sums up the flaw in your arguement. SE placed FF7 on the store for £7.99, nobody buys it. So in an attempt to make money, they put it for £0...I'm not a math major but I know you are less likely to make money if you put it at £0."

I did not speak about making money out of those games... And yes you're probably not a math major.

"When ff7 was in the #1 spot, it was alleged to be selling 100k roughly each week, same with 8 and 9 and MGS."

Source mate, SOURCE. Because I did not read something close to this statement anywhere. I'll be glad to have numbers.

"It managed to make its money back last year, but its development had bankrupted the studio behind it."

And the thing you linked to was over 5months ago.

I guess week one is a mistake but making back its money in a few month and saving the company from bankrupcy is admirable at the very least.

By your logic, blu-ray versions of old movies should be free.

"And no, making some older games free would not translate into much profit. They might win a few new customers because of that but most of those would be people who would just play the free offerings."

Or at least people that would buy ps3 ( and possibly a ps4 after that ) just to play the free psn catalogue. And I do not think that would be just "a few" if you ask me.

You buy a ps3 for 250$, you have no game. You buy a bundle for 270/299$ you have one game, whoooh.

But here, with "this" solution you buy a ps3 for 250$ and you get plenty of games for free. Killer argument imho. Ps3 owner have great chance to buy a ps4 in a short future if they're happy with their actual ps3 system you know.
And we all know people will take all their time to jump into next gen, ps3 will still be the sony way to go system and profit maker for quite a time.

If you still fail to see how profit can be made from this...

Good luck with your petition. I never had the opportunity to buy all those cool PS2 games and so I'm actually happy they gave us the possibility to buy a collection. And if you search well you find them around 20 bucks which is not a problem for me anymore. And with ps+ and Sony discounts you get good value for your money. I bought Sly collection for 12.99 euros and got major discount on GoW thanks to PSplus. JAK collection is cross=buy for 30 euros which is a good deal for me as well. 5 dollars for PS1 classics and 10 for PS2 is also reasonable. Nobody is saying to get the game twice if you already own a hard copy. And everybody knows what to expect for PS3 so if you want to play old classics you could just find yourself a PS2

Then I would be in the vast majority, including the management of the businesses involved?  That's correct.

I mean, let's break down what you're saying.  First of all, offering really old games for free simply isn't going to attract all that many new customers.  I'm sorry, but it's not.  The people who want those games mostly have them and most kids wouldn't play them even if they were free.

Second, you want Sony to pay for this and/or you want publishers to give up a source of income going forward.  If Sony were to pay for every download going forward, not only would they be losing their share of the profit, they'd be spending money.  As for companies like Square, no, they're not going to give up profit for nothing, so Sony would have to compensate them.  Since you're talking about ALL PS1 games, that's a HUGE amount of money.

The only possible way this could work is if it's tied to PS+ in a promotional way, to where Sony makes a deal with a specific company for their back-catalog for a limited amount of time.  I can't see how that would drive more profit than the current system of promoted sales, however, so it probably isn't going to happen.

The bottom line is that there is very little incentive for Sony or third-party publishers to do this right now.

"And everybody knows what to expect for PS3 so if you want to play old classics you could just find yourself a PS2"

No, because :

- Some of the ps2 titles I've mentioned are clearly better in their ps3 classic iteration. Framerate, clipping, aliasing and other shit have been fixed. (We all know SOTC needed it a lot). Plus try to play ps2 OG games with a ps2 linked to your HD screen and come back to told me if it's still a good idea in your mind. Next what ? Maybe I should also keep a smaller, old screen next to my hd TV just to play ps2 games ?

- Why should I keep a ps2 next to my ps3 when my ps3 is supposed First the ps3 isn't backward compatible (wich was big fail from Sony) and now people tell me to keep a ps2 next to my ps3 ? LOL.

- I've already bought a lot of ps2 OG titles to play them on ps2, guess what ? A lot of game crashed in game or have some sound problem. Digital copies are the best way to go for those "old" games. I'm not that found of hard copies.

What source of income ? We do not know the numbers. What I am sure of is that studios does not need the money coming from it.

Everyone on the video games industry complain about psn sales. I spoke about Journey, but not only indies are disapointed about psn sales. Kojima had also stated that psn sales are very low and how he disapointed about zone of the enders HD collection sales.

So...clearly some effort have gone intgo these games but they should still be free?
