Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Retailers are a part of the Wii U problem

I was browsing around my city center yesterday, in Bristol UK, at all of the game sections trying to hunt for new releases and sales on Wii U and 3DS games and noticed something which could confuse your average person.

In your traditional Gaming store, take GAME for example, all of the game sections have always been clearly labelled and seperated per console, there is a PS3 section, a Xbox 360 section, a Vita section and... wait a minute...

A Wii section and a DS section.

Within the Wii section, there is mainly Wii U games, and some of the more recent Wii releases along with second hand games. I understand that Wii U does not have a huge catalogue yet and probably could not fill up its own section but then i took a look at the DS section.

The games were all jumbled. 3DS and DS games mixed together, and the cases are not that dissimilar, it was confusing to me to find some of the 3DS games and i am an experienced gamer who definitely knows the difference between DS and 3DS.

I think instances like this are creating the brand confusion which everybody has been blaming Nintendo for for the past 2 years.

Wondering if anyone else has noticed anything like this?

Many walmarts do this as well. Ive seen it in Chicago and San Diego

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

in my city Wii/U games are all together, but 3DS has its own section

I think that everything is the problem just not Nintendo.

Give me a break, the boxes are different, people would know. In Poland, Vita, if they are selling games for it at all, also doesn't have it's own shelf space,(if there is no PS Vita stand that obviously SONY put there paying money so the handheld is visible), and the few games there are, are merged with PSP titles.

So it is happening...PS4 preorder.

Greatness Awaits!

this one of the reasons why i think it is best to cut support for a system off after you release a new to avoid to confuse

I kind of agree with this, but then that can lead to alienating your audience. Its a very delicate matter

I do have glasses.

But im saying, at quick glance it is difficult to tell a 3DS game case to a DS game case, and those who are not that well informed would struggle

Just my opinion

Nope, Still Nintnedo's problem, remember these retailers don't care about Nintendo's image or how their products are advertised or set up, that's Nintendo's business and since Nintendo buys shelf space then they can demand how there products are shown and where they are located, such as at the front of the shop or near the back.

At the end of the day retailers are there to move products and make money, they don't care if the WiiU and Wii games are jumbled, they just care that they sell, if Nintendo doesn't like it they can have this sorted and the retailer will comply...so it may seem that maybe, just maybe Nintendo may not care either.

uhhh nope. nintendo is. from the naming to the look of the box. its all nintendo, the retailers dont design it, name it, and market it(besides a flyer for a sale).

In my city it´s the same situation
Most of the shops simply mix Wii/WiiU games, 3DS/DS games and Vita/PS3/PS2 games on the same shelves.
It´s common to find people (specially parents and grandpas) looking for specific games as gifts and always mixing things up, like, buying NSMB (DS) instead of NSMB2 (3ds) or buying a Skylanders for Wii when its son/grandchildren wants the WiiU version.
Heck! Even some online shops mix Wii and WiiU games on the same cathegory. It makes harder to find specific games.

Sometimes the retailers do not pay much attention to what they´re selling. And this is not Nintendo´s fault.
