did you see titanfall the kinect 2.0 tech? its REALLY impressive and advanced. im searching for 3d depth camera costs and i actually came across and article from 2010 about 3d depth cameras (that mentions the kinect1)  and the costs of some 3D depth cameras there are 12 thousand! but more realistcally i found a site called "softkinect" they sell depth cameras that are more like the kinect, one for 299$ and the other for 249$. they of course profite from them so that doesnt show production price, but the specs are much lower than those of kinect 2.0. coming to think about it, i wouldnt be surprised if the kincet2.0 actually costs more than the console to make

The Kinect costing just as much as the console to make is just crazy. If they cost equally and say MS is breaking even with the each sale, then the Xbox One would cost them $250 to make. Just imagine the storm MS would make if they released an Xbox One SKU without Kinect at $300.

Alas I think if the console and Kinect cost the same, MS might actually be taking a loss here at launch. I have to wonder if this investment on Kinect will pay off for them in the end.

well always thought that Kinect was at least more than 200 if not 300... depending on economy of scale....

but I don't see an SKU without Kinect coming ever.... because the more things filter out the more it looks like having an XB1 without a Kinect would be comparable to have a PC without a mouse.... completely unpractical to use....

i dont think it will ever come as well. kinect seems too integrated in the OS to ever be sold without one. also ALL games being developed have the ability to use kinect,while some games might not use kinect im sure others will, even if its for a simple feature there will be games that need kinect to work properly. taking kinect out down the line would render some games to be unplayable without kinect, and cause a need to buy it, meaning the removale on kinect in the first place will be useless. 

Kinect will be a focus when the media blitz comes. FWIW, I've seen kinect on 360 in store in plenty of places and people naturally start to interact with it once they notice that the xbox notices them.

Why are people shocked Kinect 2.0 is expensive?

What do you think would be more expensive, assembling off the shelf midrange pc components or creating a one of a kind motion tracking camera far superior to anything that exist today? R&D on Kinect alone must be in 100s of millions of dollars...

A lot of neat stuff mentioned in this. Btw anyone catch that he mentioned a headset will likely be bundled with the console. A small but important change.

 The biggest one... Kinect One SDK costs ~$400 and have 2 Kinect One included and the SDK tools... no way it costs more than $150 each.
