Square Enix needs to do a lot of things.

No more HD Remakes.

They will now be 4K Remakes.

Should they, yes.

Will they?... No. SE is too busy losing money to care about what made its games popular in the first place.

I'm currently replaying Final Fantasy VII on PC (due to the Steam release), and honestly, I think it's fine the way it is. Trying to remake it would seem like such a huge undertaking (e.g., Square-Enix would have to rewrite the dialogue if they wanted to implement voice acting because the current dialogue just doesn't seem suited for voice overs), not to mention that it may not result in something that the fans originally loved about the game (e.g., there is a bit of quirkyness in the original game that I'm afraid SE wouldn't maintain in a remake, given the direction they've taken with Crisis Core or Advent Children).

I would much rather that Square-Enix focus their efforts on new Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, and Kingdom Hearts entries, as well as other new titles. If SE is intent on a remake or re-rerelease after X/X-2, I would hope that Final Fantasy VI would be the first candidate, given that its 20 year anniversary is next year.

I don't want a remake of VII. I want them to make XV good.

Leave the damn game alone. The game is legendary to some people and some would rather preserve those memories than to have them ruined with something that really may not add anything new except updated graphics/ etc.

Bottom line is....It would be pointless to release what seems to be a good game with updated visuals and whatnot as that really wouldn't add anything new and if SE did add anything new then it wouldn't be the same game. Pointless.

Excuse me but it's not just updated graphics & don't think for a second that even if it was only updated graphics as u say it will not be so important, especially for kids who have half my age (the kids of today) for them graphics r everything, I have read time & time again that some who wanted to play it skip it in the end because they couldn't stand the graphics, but as I say it will not be only updated graphics here a list of what the differences would be if SE remake FFVII today:

1.Next generation graphics that includes everything ofc from enviroment, backgrounds, character models, spells, summons, Limits (think Knights of the Round & Omnislash with PS4 graphics nothing else to say)

2.The soundtrack which now is crappy MIDI files will be replaced with HQ 7.1 sound (think to fight Sephiroth at the end & hear "One Winged Angel" & feel like u r in a theater & the whole symphonic orchestra play the track in front of u as u will be able to distinguish what instument play at each section)

3.The now mute game will be for the most part full voiced, voice overs will add a completely new layer of immersion imo, just this will make the game a whole new experience.

4.The FMVs who back then was the most crazy think we had ever seen on a game today look really bad & archaic, think what SE can do today, think how awesome the scene were Mako Cannon shoot at weapons & all other FMV would look like if they remade it today, it will be fcking awesome! :D

5.SE will have the opportunity to add some *new* scenes to explain the story better I don't say to alter the story just to use a better way to explain some stuff like make some cut scenes longer & show more stuff & have in mind that all that will be with next generation graphics & voice overs!!!

6.The last one is not a difference it's one of the reasons imo SE must remake FFVII, to keep the LEGEND alive for future generations, kids who never play it before, kids who right now is 12-15 years old & most of them never play FFVII & can't understand why every1 praise FFVII so much & why so many ppl think it's the best game ever made etc will get it if a remake released just to see what the fuss is all about, just from curiosity & as long SE devs do their job right they will create new fans & the game will never be forgotten & people will keep on talking about it even 20 years from now.

(Btw have in mind before u make any fast impressions about me that I first play FFVII back in 97 & it's my all time favorite game along with Xenogears & I have finish it 24 times in a period of 5 years, so it's not that I need better graphics to enjoy it, but I always wanted to experience it again with updated visuals, sound, videos, voice overs because it will be a whole new experience, & most of all I want to make thousands of battles with new Spells/Summons/Limits animations, I always think how awesome summons would look like with today graphics or Limits! this game deserve more that any other game a remake)

No, they'll ruin it with voices and making the great moments FMV sequences, a 3rd person perspective, things like that.

If they do, it needs to be the same in many features, except graphics.

Exactly, a big graphical ugrade IMO will ruin the game. I hate the look of Advent Children and that's probably what they would make it look like.

I would be ok with a more minor upgrade, like taking the current game and upgrading the poly models, maybe up resing the existing pre-rendered art, etc.
