There are many cases where limited supply actually leads to higher sales. Limited supply has a psychological effect on consumers; We are more willing to buy a product that we perceive as hot on the market. Some companies even limit supply in order to make a product appear more hot than it actually is.
Thanks to early supply constrains, Nintendo could maintain much of Wii's momentum well beyond the initial launch period.
Some argue that Wii's record sales in 2008 would not have been possible without limited supply in 2007.
