"The news is especially harsh since fans raised nearly $95,000 in donations to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation earlier this year to allow Smash to be included in the tournament. Nintendo’s streaming block follows its decision to enforce copyright on YouTube videos in May."

- IGN, quote by Andrew Goldfarb,
http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/07/09/nintendo-blocks-smash-bros-melee-streaming-at-evo

Appearently, Nintendo contact EVO staffs and inform them that there not allow to stream their product. Melee, a ten year old game, not alloud to be stream for EVO/Nintendo fan to enjoy worldwide.

*FACEPALM!!!* ....If this is how Nintendo going to be, why even bother buying the new Smash Bros. if Nintendo going to be this restricted with there content. Don't they know how big the EVO is, Nintendo......your not making it f**king easy to support your software. What happen to you Nintendo.
(No offense to Sakurai, still a fan of your content)

If there any updates on this news, please let me know!!

Facepalm  "why even bother buying the new Smash Bros"?   Because it is supposed to be played not streamed   you know there is companies out there charging Clubs etc because they  play music made by artists.  So its just normal that there is either the artist or special companies that charge people who show the games someone made /facepalm

If people wouldnt be so cheap they would pay a FEE to Nintendo to have the games  but they want income (thanks to viewers) without doing anything for it.

Here is what happened most probably:

Nintendo has people that go around defending their IP's on several supports. The request of EVO got thrown in with the request from average joe's site. The standard Nintendo reply by their lower ranking worker is no refuse these requests in a polite form.

EVO goes public saying they got this response. Fans are displeased and this reaches the ears of higher ranking workers on the company. They immediatly order the mistake to be rectified since its not average joe's site but a show with lots of exposure.

Thats basically what happened here. The low ranking worker has no clue who these sites/organisations are and the higher one does and had to rectify the decision.
Is Nintendo clueless? No, otherwise they wouldnt have reverted the decision so fast.
Is the lower ranking worker someone who doesnt know or care about videogames? Probably yes.

Nintendo never refused anything or made/reverted any discision. They were informing Evo that they never got permission from them to broadcast the game.

If they didn't ask for permission......they didn't have permission

"...do not have permission..."

Ah right. Well, its still the same logic. Its a lower employee that is assigned that task. Just like the removal of Youtube videos. That employee is just trying to do the task assigned to him/her. I dont see any other explanation for the sudden and speedy change of heart.

I guess I never will quite understand the small, vocal minority that to this day has such a hard-on for Melee. Don't get me wrong, it's good that Nintendo is allowing it to be streamed. Out of all three companies, I would in all honesty give them the "most fan friendly" award. But while Melee was a great game for it's time, to me, Brawl pretty much outdid it in every conceivable fashion, as (despite certain things I don't like hearing from Sakurai) this new game will also hopefully outdo Brawl. I guess I just don't "get" the morbid obsession some have with Melee.

The people who play Smash at a high level see Melee as a more competitive game than Brawl - especially what with the tripping mechanic making competitive play kind of random.

"Melee... on the internet?!? For God sakes man, we can't have that!"

~Actual quote overheard at a meeting at Nintendo HQ.

Nintendo worked damn hard to make sure thsoe GameCube games stayed offline. Damn Sega had to wreck the GameCube's offline purity.

They sure did.. I understand it would have been tough to have the broadband infrastructure ready to go at launch for a game like Melee, but by the time Mario Kart Double Dash was released 2 years later, it was practically begging for an online mode.  Dedicated fans even went so far as to create a "tunneling" project that allowed (although barely playable) DD to be played online.

Animal Crossing would have been another huge benefactor of online support... instead of having a dedicated memory card packed in, an online feature would have allowed for all sorts of cool social interactions and communities to flourish.

But once again, if it seems like a good idea, even a no brainer in some cases, then it means Nintendo will probably want nothing to do with it.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.
