There’s only one review score in this week’s Famitsu, but it’s a doozy. The magazine handed out the first verdict for Pikmin 3, awarding it three 9′s and a 10. That comes in for a total of 37 points out of a possible 40.

I thought the general rule is not to trust famitsu when they give out scores?

Famitsu also gave Resident Evil 6 a 39/40. Their reviewers know a timeless masterpiece when they see it!



Seriously though I loved Pikmin back on Gamecube, and I hope it does well...

Don't get me wrong, not saying the game will suck, just saying it's Famitsu...

Pikmin scored 9/9/8/8 (34/40) and Pikmin 2 scored 9/9/9/9 (36/40).

Famitsu dont have any credibility.

Famitsu's questionable credibility comes from score inflation, but that still means that they're a viable apples-to-apples comparison, such as with Boutros indicating how they have scored prior Pikmin games.

Seems to stack up well enough to me.

Sounds good, lets hope they are all that good.

I don't think it's really a matter of not trusting them so much as their scores aren't at all useful, even by the low standards of boiling a review down to the score slapped on at the end of it. Edge's scores are often pretty surprising, and because they are so stringent with their scoring system, you can really get a sense of what exactly they thought about a game just by what grade they gave it. With Famitsu, if it's reasonably hyped game (and assuming the check clears, lolz) then 8s, 9s, and 10s fall upon it like rain without fail.
