But they don't embrace it. Anime and the "otaku games" are not very big and often seen as for children. An older person is looked down upon for liking it just as much as they are in America if not more.

I got banned for saying something along those lines and called a racist by JRPG fans.

anime for children ??? yet half of it is rated MA or the equivalent in most countries in the world.... that's like producing liquor for underage people.... and I'm not even starting on hentai.... sex is big world wide anyway.... search engines prove it since for ever

Most people simplify the foriegn culture and appreciate the complexity of their domestic one. When I mention anime most unfamiliar think the extremes of it being either for children or pornographic. We get frustrated when our culture is simplified to "all you X think or do blank" yet how quickly we fall into the trap ourselves.
On Xbox in Japan, at this point I am not sure their is a way for Microsoft to crack that market and may just have to learn to be content with going without it in the future.
Your average xbox noob
Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

I think this is true. Ghibli films are treated as Pixar films (great, but for kids) and most other shows are treated with a kind of cautious feelings because of unfamiliarity. Some things have older fans because they grew up with it, but they tend to ignore a lot of the new stuff. Doesn't help that 90% of anime airs well after midnight.

I do not know about television. I will say in the age of internet you can access things on your own schedule. Crunchy Roll is a good site as well as various localization ones (Funimation, etc.).
