A bad port can eventually be an ok port, but an awful one will never be completely fixed... specially since it costs money and the publisher won't be interested in spending that much, because otherwise they would have done a good port from the start.

In any case, I have Arkham Asylum and Arkham City, and I found them to be ok, but not as great as the critics say.

In another vein, those of you with an Nvidia card that are planning to buy a fast monitor (one of those 144Hz or more kind of monitors), pay attention:

Testing GPU Power Draw at Increased Refresh Rates using the ASUS PG279Q

The results are much more interesting than I expected! At 60Hz refresh rate, the monitor was drawing just 22.1 watts while the entire testing system was idling at 73.7 watts. (Note: the display was set to its post-calibration brightness of just 31.) Moving up to 100Hz and 120Hz saw very minor increases in power consumption from both the system and monitor.

But the jump to 144Hz is much more dramatic – idle system power jumps from 76 watts to almost 134 watts – an increase of 57 watts! Monitor power only increased by 1 watt at that transition though. At 165Hz we see another small increase, bringing the system power up to 137.8 watts.

Well shit and I ordered my 24" AOC G2460PG 144 Hz G-SYNC 1920x1080 monitor just the other week, which by the way still hasn't arrived.

I wouldn't worry too much, unless you need to restart the PC to change between the refresh rates (becasue of the GPU, not the monitor, of course). Just set the monitor to 120Hz when you're not playing and, when you want to start a game, change the refresh to 144Hz.

Just don't forget to lower it down once you're done gaming.

Nope.

But I got a response from humble bundle's support but.....the response they gave me didnt help not that it matters since I redeemed the keys already....

Although the last part does...give me some hope that I wont have any issues?

-----

Hi there,

Great question! If the keys are region locked to India, it's likely you won't be able to purchase them at all. We're sorry about that! Region restriction rules and laws are very strict, and we don't much room to negotiate about that.

My suggestion is that you have a friend buy a copy while you're in India (if region restrictions are an issue, they might not be).

I can tell you that any games on your Steam account will absolutely be available as long as you're in a region that allows them.

Let me know if I can assist you with anything else! Thanks again for reaching out to us, and for supporting our unique network of developers, gamers, and charities!

Yeah, by these bits

"If the keys are region locked to India, it's likely you won't be able to purchase them at all."

"I can tell you that any games on your Steam account will absolutely be available as long as you're in a region that allows them."

it doesn't look bad.

Afaik those G-sync monitors apparently let you switch the hz on the fly unless I have to do it via the NV CP as well.

I'm honestly not too worried about a couple more pounds to the bill but I'm more worried about my 980 burning out before it's 4 years.

PC Is Still A Very Important Platform For Electronic Arts, Almost As Profitable As Each Current-Gen Console

http://www.dsogaming.com/news/pc-is-still-a-very-important-platform-for-electronic-arts-almost-as-profitable-as-each-current-gen-console/

Electronic Arts has issued its Q1 and Q2 2016 financial stats and as we can see, PC remains a really profitable platform for the big publisher. According to EA’s stats, the PC GAAP net revenue was 23% in Q2 2016 and 21% in Q1 2016, whereas the current-gen (PS4 + Xbox One) GAAP net revenue was 41% in both Q1 and Q2 2016. If we assume that PS4 and Xbox One have the same sales, then PC is the leading platform for the company’s GAAP results.

>>And that's without launching their new games on Steam! As much as we dislike it, it turns out that Origin wasn't a bad idea after all.

Steam now sells software tutorial videos

http://www.pcgamer.com/steam-now-sells-software-tutorial-videos/

If you can tear yourself away from Steam's terribly organised Halloween sale, you may have noticed that a new sub-section has been added to the Videos section of the store. Joining documentaries, movies, episodic stuff and short films is the new Software Tutorials section, which features videos teaching you how to, for instance, make 3D models or their accompanying textures.

THE ESCAPISTS channels Bond, James Bond for its latest DLC

http://www.pcgamer.com/the-escapists-channels-bond-james-bond-for-its-latest-dlc/

The Escapists is getting some new DLC, and despite this weekend, it's not Halloween-themed. No, it's James Bond-themed, probably to tie in with that film that's just come out. You know the one. Unlike The Escapists: The Walking Dead, it's not an official James Bond thing, but yeah, it's called Duct Tapes are Forever, and it asks you to plot your escape from a supervillain's underground lair.

Yep, I kid you not.

Oh EA, yall keep trying to butter me up sometimes but you won't win, well not yet anyway.

As much as I love Titanfall I'm not really the type to pay full price for games on Origin since they don't really give me as many likable games I'd buy full price like those Steam provides me. Majority of games I've grabbed on Origin were either on the house or bought for £10 like Titanfall.

That said Origin is miles better and looks more pleasing than Uplay will ever be, that and they don't sell to Steam and force you to use their client once you boot the game you paid for to use on Steam only to use their client.

New Steam record: almost 12.6 million concurrent users.

The last records... (this October is crazy!):

  • 8.47 million (January 1st)
  • 9.06 million (March 15th)
  • 9.50 million (May 10th)
  • 10.05 million (June 14th)
  • 10.76 million (October 22th)
  • 11.62 million (October 24th)
  • 12.59 million (October 31th)

^Very impressive.

And then we have people like Ruler who thinks that PCs will go down because of the Euro-Dollar exchange rates. Yeah, sure...
