Valve and Ubisoft fined over Steam and Uplay refund policies in France
https://www.pcgamer.com/valve-and-ubisoft-fined-over-steam-and-uplay-refund-policies-in-france/
Valve and Ubisoft have been fined by French authorities over the refund policies of Steam and Uplay, specifically their failure to specify that consumers in the country have 14 days to demand a refund from digital services. Ubisoft has no refund policy in place for Uplay—all purchases are final—while Valve offers a 14-day refund policy but only on games that have been played for less than two hours. Neither of those are adequate under French law, but that's not the only problem.
As noted by French gaming site NoFrag (via PCGamesN), French law allows for no exception for the number of hours played: Article L221-18 states, in Google translated form, "The consumer has a period of fourteen days to exercise his right of withdrawal from a contract concluded at a distance, following a canvassing telephone or off-premises, without having to motivate his decision or to bear other costs than those provided for in Articles L. 221-23 to L. 221-25."

Ken Levine apologises for BioShock's final boss battle
https://www.pcgamer.com/ken-levine-apologises-for-bioshocks-final-boss-battle/
Earlier this year, Pip asked: More than a decade on, does BioShock still hold up? I mean, it's no secret that its final boss battle was a bit of a stinker. Somewhat surprisingly, Ken Levine has now apologised.
To mark this year's Day of Atonement—the holiest day of the year in Judaism—the series director expressed sorrow "for the naked Atlas boss battle" at the end of the first game.

Frostpunk's latest expansion is out now, celebrates with two new trailers
https://www.pcgamer.com/frostpunks-new-expansion-is-out-now-celebrates-with-two-new-trailers/
Frostpunk's newest expansion, 'The Fall of Winterhome' is out now.
The new story trailer delivers a rather sombre message, left by a nameless former inhabitant of Winterhome. Named 'The Fall of Winterhome', it shows what happened to the city before the timeline of the main campaign. Developer 11 bit studios promises "hours of brand-new content" and a "unique map with fresh visuals." There will be more lore to uncover too, as well as "new mechanics" and buildings.

Destiny 2: Forsaken's new Gambit multiplayer mode is free for all players this weekend
https://www.pcgamer.com/destiny-2-forsakens-new-gambit-multiplayer-mode-is-free-for-all-players-this-weekend/
One of the big attractions in the Destiny 2: Forsaken expansion is Gambit, a PvE/PvP hybrid in which two teams of four players race to dispatch waves of enemies and collect "motes" that enable them to occasionally take breaks and go mess with the other side. Tim ran it down in enthusiastic detail here, calling it "social and competitive, without having the relentless capacity for salt that getting spammed by Vigilance Wing and Graviton Lance in, say, Trials creates."

Halo Infinite will have microtransactions, but no loot boxes
https://www.pcgamer.com/halo-infinite-will-have-microtransactions-but-no-loot-boxes/
We don't know much about Halo Infinite at this point, except that it's been confirmed for PC and 343 isn't (publicly, at least) interested in a battle royale mode. But the mention of microtransactions didn't go over especially well with a number of Halo fans, who expressed unhappiness (such as in this Reddit thread) about the game's "pay to win" prospects, the return of a REQ unlock system, and/or the "anti-consumer" nature of microtransactions in general.
Neither Microsoft nor 343 have said specifically how Halo Infinite microtransactions will work, but studio head Chris Lee took to Twitter today to say that, regardless of whatever else happens, loot boxes are not part of the formula.

3DMark adds a new 'Night Raid' benchmark for PCs with integrated graphics
https://www.pcgamer.com/3dmark-adds-a-new-night-raid-benchmark-for-pcs-with-integrated-graphics/
UL Benchmarks is fleshing out its 3DMark benchmarking suite with a couple of new tests, one of which is built specifically for evaluating systems with integrated graphics. The other is a ray tracing benchmark that we covered last month.
The one that is being built for PCs with integrated graphics is called "Night Raid." It's a DirectX 12 benchmark, though presumably less intense than Time Spy, which is also a DX12 test.
UL Benchmarks didn't get into the nitty-gritty details of Night Raid, though did say it is ideal for "laptops, notebooks, tablets, and other mobile computing devices." It can also be used to evaluate Windows 10 PCs running on ARM hardware.
As for the ray tracing benchmark, it still doesn't have a name. UL Benchmarks says it combines real-time ray tracing with existing with existing techniques to enhance reflections and other effects, and will run on any system that supports Microsoft's DirectX Raytracing (DXR) API.

>>In case you didn't know, UL Benchmarks is the former Futuremark.

This mod is said to be compatible in both offline and online modes, though we suggest avoid using it online as it may eventually lead to a ban. For the time being, Capcom has not banned the author for using it however there is no guarantee that you will be safe using it.

We included Fortnite's Close Encounters LTM in our list of the best and worst of Fortnite's limited time modes, but I'm not completely certain about which side it was meant for. "Players would fly through their air, shotguns in hand and jetpacks on backs, taking players out in the skies," which sounds like a blast—except that once people figured out how to literally place themselves above the fray, it all fell apart. https://www.dsogaming.com/news/uncharted-3-the-last-of-us-resistance-fall-of-man-and-more-run-better-on-the-latest-version-of-rpcs3/
The RPCS3 team has released a new video, showing the latest version of its Playstation 3 emulator running a number of triple-A games. From what we can see, Uncharted 3, The Last of Us, Resistance 1 and some Yakuza games run better now on RPCS3, though the first two Sony-exclusive games are nowhere close to being described as playable titles.
Going into more details, The Last of Us and Uncharted 3 can now go in-game for the first time (without using a save file). Needless to say that these two games do not run well on RPCS3 so no, you won’t be able to play them with this latest version. Still, the team is making a lot of progress overall.

Monster Hunter World – “Quest Editor” & “Monsters HP and Team Damage” mods available for download
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/monster-hunter-world-quest-editor-monsters-hp-and-team-damage-mods-available-for-download/
Monster Hunter World fans, here are two cool mods for you today. Modder ‘Mortimus’ has released a Quest Editor mod that lets players modify quest files while modder ‘HelloWorId’ released a mod that displays the HP of monsters and the damage that your team receives.
The Quest Editor mod is currently in an early state that lets you modify the size, primary target, and hunter rank, and its latest version adds all used variables to be edited. The editor could also be used to change the location of a quest, however this setting is currently too buggy for release. Nevertheless, this is the first step at creating an unofficial Quest Editor that could open up a lot of possibilities.
On the other hand, the Show Monsters HP and Team Damage mod highlights Monster HP, Player Names, Player Damage and Player DPS. These details are presented in the chat window and players will have to follow this guide in order to enable it.

>>Those mods can be downloaded from Nexus Mods. Check the article for the links.

Treyarch has released an official trailer for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4's Zombies mode, featuring the US band, Avenged Sevenfold.
The trailer features a montage of zombie slaying action, in what looks like a Roman colosseum, complete with spike traps and zombie tigers—all of which will be familiar if you caught the story trailer, back in July. Oh, and there's also a tall guy that seems intent on vomiting—what is presumably—green acid all over you.

https://www.pcgamer.com/fortnite-season-6-is-coming-a-week-later-than-we-thought/
Fortnite Season 6 is coming a week later than we thought, starting on September 27 according to a recent tweet from the official Fortnite account. Seasons don't always stack up exactly one week after week 10, but an extra week isn't usually the case. Season 5 started just one day after Season 4. More time to clean up those challenges isn't a bad thing though, and we can expect the usual week of teasers leading up to launch.

Destiny 2: Forsaken players find easy new way to loot chest in the Last Wish raid
https://www.pcgamer.com/destiny-2-forsaken-players-find-easy-new-way-to-loot-chest-in-the-last-wish-raid/
Nearly a week before the release of Last Wish, Destiny 2: Forsaken's new raid, players not only found a way into the raid area and up to a raid chest, they also happened upon a sketchy method to repeatedly loot the chest, with some players obtaining full raid gear sets before Last Wish was even released. Now that the raid is actually out, players have focused their secret-hunting efforts on the mysterious Wall of Wishes found at the start of the raid, and after a little tinkering they've uncovered an easy, legitimate way to loot a raid chest. It doesn't reward powerful gear, but it is a fun and fast way to nab some Last Wish weapons and armor.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider launched with a different ending that was patched out on day one

If you played Shadow of the Tomb Raider all the way to the end, then you know how it ends. (Obviously.) But as Kotaku reported today, the game shipped with a very different ending, one that referenced a significant character from Core Design's original 1996 Tomb Raider. That ending was changed in a day-one patch, so most players would never see it, or even realize it ever existed.

West Virginia, where we already knew the game is set, sits fully within Appalachia, so the name isn't a huge surprise.

Chloe and Max, the protagonists of the first season, won't be showing up, although there may be some nods to free spin-off The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit.

Maximum Action enters Early Access looking like a mashup of Half-Life and Max Payne
https://www.pcgamer.com/maximum-action-enters-early-access-looking-like-a-mashup-of-half-life-and-max-payne/
Maximum Action, an old-school shooter that just hit Early Access, reminds me of lots of different games. Visually, it looks like it's from the same era as Half-Life, but the slow-motion shooting and gun-throwing is giving me hints of Max Payne, FEAR, Superhot, and the Action Half Life mod. Whether it'll live up to any of them remains to be seen, but the early reviews are at least promising.
