Well I have $250 Turtle Beaches so it would be nice to be able to use them with the Xbox One.

because we buy games worth of hunders of dollars without owning the system to play it on right? we already have xbox360's and ps3's we can play our games on those. why drive up the cost of the PS4 and X1 up to add a feature that isnt really necessary to have to play the games we already own, since we already have the devices to play them?

also comparing headphone compatibility to backwards compatibility is very short sighted. games need specific hardware to run, headphones do not. i cant think of any device whether its a laptop, cellphone, tablet, mp3 player or handheld that uses a proprietary headset and doenst use a standerd 3.5mm jack. comparing backwards compatibility of games and compatibility of headsets with a device is absurd, BC is taken out to drive the price of a console DOWN, microsoft introducing a proprietary headphone jack is actually more expensive to make. its clear what MS is trying to do here, everyone who bought an expensive headset for the 360 will now HAVE to buy this adapter, or they have to buy a brand new expensive headphone. its a cheap trick to suck even more money out the consumers wallet. it isnt the first thing MS did like this, battery packs for the controller, because in 2013 every device uses AA batteries right? proprietary HDD's for the 360, again how expensive are those?

That probably won't work since that port is probabaly for charging only. The audio out is proprietary from what I understand.

The front Micro USB jack is for connecting to the console for charging or using in a wired context.

The rear jack is for accessories. 

The reason the Xbox 360 and now the Xbox One don't use a 3.5mm headphone jack is so you can connect additional accessories to the device without requiring a second port on the device or some bastardized method of connection.  The Xbox One's mic input is also digital, not analog, providing a better sound quality than you'd receive with an analog 3.5mm device.

A reasonable argument may be "Why did the Xbox 360 use a proprietary connector?" and I doubt we'll ever get that answer, but Micro USB is a standard connector on the Xbox One for the reasons I mentioned.



Wish Microsoft make free things and give out to appease people that don't even buy their system. So there will be arguments about games in this forum instead of rubbish BS. The Kinect 2.0 already has a microphone and a speaker, if you like more comfort and quality invest in them.

Microsoft is currently working on an adapter for current wired headsets to connect to Xbox One. This tidbit of information was revealed when @XboxSupport replied to a question that was posted on Twitter. Actually, my understanding is that those adapters are being created by the manfacturers of the actual headsets/headphones, not Microsoft.

It's been a bit since I read it, so I can't recall if it was from Turtle Beach or Microsoft, but the clear indication was that in the case of Turtle Beach they would be manufacturing an adapter for their headphones/headsets.

While it would be nice to be able to reuse hardware, the audio improvements available to Xbox One headsets will make using older technology temporary.  Xbox One headsets will have a wider bandwith for voice data, allowing for improved fidelity over the Xbox 360.

Also, I think everyone here forgets that the Xbox One supports Wi-Fi Direct.  While in simple terms this means you can use your Xbox One as an access point, it also means that there are a plethora of "compatible" devices already available on the market with Xbox One.  From Wi-Fi speakers, headsets, headphones, TVs, receivers, etc, etc, etc, etc.

One possible use, for example, would be in home automation.  When you go to play a movie, an App on Xbox One would automatically dim or turn off your room lights via Wi-Fi connection home automation components.  Or your Wi-Fi connected thermostat could be controlled via your Xbox One to turn up or down the temperature of the room.

Likewise the power of SmartGlass increases significantly with the ability to send the video output of the Xbox One directly to any Wi-Fi capable smartphone, tablet, or display monitor opening up several possibilities.



Hmm.. I'm curious. Would the Xbox Wireless Headsets work for the XB1?
