Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Microsoft Clarify Family Sharing, Wasn’t Only Demos

And that's the problem... you not seeing how it would have ever worked.... doesn't necessarily imply that there wasn't solutions for it to work.....
Not enough elements came out for anyone to claim it would have been 60 bucks divided by 10 for the devs and gamers....
That's how you see it nothing more....

It's like a long time ago people where saying humans can't fly.... yet today I fly several times a year.... our lack of vision and understanding doesn't void the feasibility of something....

I'm not sure if you are suggesting that I am too dumb to understand some amazing process that MS had hidden away which even they couldnt explain...

Come up with something then, rather than just trying to pick a hole in my argument that i am not intelligent enough to figure it out. Because i'm not the only one it seems... including much of the gaming press.

I'm all ears... waiting to hear your ideas.

Ps - I recommend you watch the latest episode of Invisible Walls on game trailers, they suggest exactly the same as many people in this forum. Are they not forward thinking enough either?

No I'm implying that us gamers as community did/do not have enough elements to say how that family plan and the XBL gold accounts would have worked and if it would have resulted into a 60bucks divided by ten for us gamers and rev/publisher... there are many ways to generate profit MS or other actors could have thought of that we haven't envisioned.... I include myself in the lot

Why would a publisher want to release a full price $60 game and they get people to only pay $10 for it. It makes no sense at all. GTAV for example is going to sell by the bucket load, oh yeah lets have everyone pay $10 for it instead.

Most people who were pro family sharing were saying "playing games for free", or "me and my mates could buy one game and all play it".

If MS were not able to even properly explain it, to me it suggests they hadn't actually figured it out themselves or had other plans that there were not prepared to reveal. After the mess of the last month, it would not surprise me at all.

once again that's just one way to see things... the most basic one I buy a game 60 I share it with 10 so it's 60/10 for the devs.....
like I said you and I don't know the specifics of the plan and the gold and other element that might have been at play to say it is how it would have worked/resulted....
I gave a couple ideas but I'm sure many more could exist I haven't thought off.....
advertising overlay, DLC discount for owners.... or limited access to extra content for borrowers, timed sharing (you can only play 45min a day).... extra reward points for the owners that can be spent on other stuff on XBL.... some of the XBL price is going back to devs....
the only element we have so far is you could share a game with 10 friends with gold accounts.... nothing more... that doesn't imply there is no downside to it or at least revenue source Ms thought of we haven't thought of....

^^^^^ I agree with that part..... i'm sure the specifics of it were not finalized thse being the reason they couldn't provide more information about it.... it doesn't mean they didn't have already some ideas on what could be possible to do to generate profit out of it....

people forget that 6month out is a long time to implement new concepts that are already in the pipeline.... a lot of tweaks can be done in 6 months on small stuff like that.... look at games demo on the floor.... some are still running on debugs and are supposed to come out this year.... if a game can be tweaked and go gold in that short of time I can bet small software things on the server side for MS that don't need to go through production and shipping can be done...

You are right we don't know the specifics, and there is a reason for that, they hadn't figured it out or it was just demos.

“Once you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, no matter how improbable, must be the truth.”... Sherlock Holmes - maybe fiction but amazingly correct.

"The simplest explanation is usually the right one"... Occam's Razor.

We can argue/discuss/pretend there are some fanciful ideas that we mere mortals couldn't figure out, but in all truth, we should just accept it probably wasn't as impressive as people believed. Otherwise they would just implement it anyway, because having been totally slated for over the last weeks since the original unveiling and getting slated for DRM, then getting slated for the u-turn, getting slated on the price...why wouldn't MS want something positive to be said about their console.

Paul Thurrott also said the paste in was bullshit and that shared games had no limit. I guess people prefer believing anonymous ramblings that better suit their agenda.

I'll believe someone with a track record of being correct (CBOAT) over someone with a track record of being a professional Microsoft shill (Thurrott), that's for sure.

I think you mean a track record of being mixed right/wrong.

Crazy how people on here have changed (or not changed). If Sony does anything its a saints act. If Microsoft does anything, even good things, they are demonized.

Badgenome you used to troll everyone equally. Now you seem to have jumped on the MS hate train.

the demo thing is pretty stupid IMO it doesn't make sense since you already can have demos today for free.... and I'm pretty sure if all games are released day one on DD you can play a demo mode of it.... it is the case on many games on WP8 and W8 store today.....

but I agree they hadn't figured it out.... doesn't mean they didn't have already a bunch of working ideas they could have easily implemented in a 6 month time frame..... but couldn't give us the details of it since it wasn't final.... the lack of information doesn't mean it doesn't exist....

They wouldn't have been yelling anything since it was barely brought up due to the fact it was added after the blow back from their May 21st show.

All these ideas showed up after Phil Spencer let it slip about the always online. Then we herd about the family sharing a few days before E3 through Major Nelsons clarification.

Could be. It may have been that they were in the process of trying to get publishers to agree, and of course none would sign on to such a stupid thing, so they gave up and ditched DRM altogether for the time being.
