Forums - Gaming Discussion - Record Breaking Amazon Video Game Pre-Order Last Week

"Last week, the Amazon Video Games store made history with its biggest pre-order week ever thanks to the launch of the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. In fact, at the peak of demand last week, Amazon customers were pre-ordering more than 2,500 Xbox One and PlayStation 4 consoles per minute. In addition: · The E3 week pre-orders of the two wildly-anticipated gaming consoles brought a year-over-year increase in orders of more than 4,000%, compared to consoles ordered during E3 week last year · Day-one pre-orders for the two consoles was nearly two times that of all video games sales on Black Friday last year (2012)"

I can't wait to see how the numbers look next week and the following weeks after. So do people still think PS4/XBO will sell as poorly as the Wii U? I heard many people suggest this over the past few months. Thoughts?

That's crazy and make the 75/45k from VGC really hard to believe.

Yeah, now I SERIOUSLY doubt that those numbers are high enough.

More pre-orders in one day than all game sales on Black Friday? 2500 consoles per minute? Holy shit.

Yeah, it's fucking nuts! This doesn't account for pre-orders from Best Buy, Walmart, Gamestop, and all the other retailers and websites.

Looks like we may see a big revision for the first ever numbers VGChartz posted for the remaining two consoles. Why am I not surprised? :p

And some thought that smartphones and tablets are killing the gaming industry. :)

I'm just glad the numbers strong. It speaks volumes about the health of and interest in the industry. But wow ... I'm guessing the PS4 took the lion's share of those figures, so Sony played their cards right. It will be interesting to see how the landscape changes over the coming months with whatever announcements both companies have. A showing of The Last Guardian on PS4 with improved visuals before launch would be VERY interesting.
