Now I love Mario Kart as much as the next guy and will be getting Mario Kart 8, but why should there be a new Mario Kart every generation yet we have to wait well over 10 years for a new F-Zero, guess that's business though. I will never stop dreaming of a new F-Zero though, calling your BS on this one Nintendo :/

There is a pretty big difference with F-Zero and Mario Kart in that Mario Kart is a Kart racer and those generally are slower-paced.  That makes it easier to add new elements to the speed-racer that F-Zero was.  Not to mention that the graphical style of F-Zero was one of the elements to the series.
Nintendo just wants to keep a certain standard with their different franchises.

Why does there need to be a gimmick to justify a sequel? Why can't they just make a normal F-Zero? If the reason is commercial success then say that; don't set out to mislead your fans.

You misuse the word "gimmick."

c : a trick or device used to attract business or attention

That describes the Wii...just omit the trick part.

Doesnt that actually describe anything sold to consumers?

" I don’t really have a good idea for what’s new that we could bring to F-Zero"

You know what Miyamoto means here. He was only persuaded to make NSMB Wii because he could add 4 player co-op. He thinks of games in terms of "surprise" and "innovation" when gamers think of them in terms of familiar experiences.

I would say that Miyamoto is more likely thinking he wants to keep a certain air with the game and he has nothing that he feels would make the next F-Zero game keep that feel to it.  I really think he doesn't want to end a series on a bad note.

Well... a gimmick tends to be a short lived trend or fad created with the sole purpose of luring a greater market of people, generally who impulse buy. The Wii was made to lure people who dont game. It was created to simplify the process so they are no longer alienated from enjoying games. Sales show it really didnt matter, except for the Wii Fit, Wii Sports and stuff like that. Moms everywhere were going Gaga for Wii fit until Microsoft launched the Kinect. Gimmicks have no practical use in the long run. It gave the Wii a good four years before the casuals went to the next trend. Nintendo tried to ride the tablet craze and that failed because theres no multipurpose use in buying a Wii U tablet. Smart Glass is a gimmick itself as far as gaming is concerned, but it will be accessible to more people than the Wii U is.

But I think it's obvious that Miyamoto was NOT talking about adding a gimmick to F-Zero.  If he were, then I am pretty sure we would have already seen one with the gamepad used (or motion controls with the wiimote).

So what he's saying is that he doesn't want to make a new F-Zero without having some brilliant new addition, and he doesn't want anyone else to mess with his baby.

So there goes my hope of a F-Zero X (or GX) remake brought to us by Monster Games.

Thats selfish...he messed with Star Fox Adventures.

Rare: Check out our new adventure game!

Miyamoto: Ehhhh....theres something missing...

Rare: What!? We can fix it sir.

Miyamoto: Put Star Fox skins on the characters

Rare: That makes no sense, this isn't a flight game.!

Miyamoto: Don't worry, it will sell more.

The hope of anything sold is the hope that it gets attention but the Wii was designed to make gaming simple and fun for all. From young kids to geriatrics. Nintendo went to your door or peeped through your window until you called 9-1-1 because "We want to play". Don't you remember those commercials?

He already did that with Nintendo Land. It's old news.
