It would obviously be for people who dont care about digital content. Someone who wants it for playing bluray, streaming netflix/hulu and to play a few mainstream games like COD/sports titles. If u want digital content then get the big HDD model.

But someone who may have interest in digital content could potentially settle with a non-HDD console because the entry fee is cheaper.
Also, limited space makes your PS3 experience pretty crappy. People with the 12GB consoles are often complaining how quickly they run out of space just from mandatory installs.

Well then they either buy a HDD or gwt the more expensive model, I dont get why u think its such a bad idea, the 12gb is for people who arent really buying games often but enjoy mainstream/casual titles which I dont think have mandatory installs and for multimedia features.
The 4gb 360 hasnt gotten many complaints and I think most people dont buy that standalone, mostly with thr Kinect bundle. Sony could do thr same thing and have the 12gb at $149 or bundled with Move and Wonderbook for $199 as one last push for those peripherals.
