Will the 12gb PS3 ever release stateside?

I wonder how much it has to do with the coincident rise in PS3 sales? I notice that PS3 has had a big bump in Europe and Australia since the 12G release. A lot of people only play FIFA or CoD, marketing a cheap system to them is smart business.
