Forums - Microsoft - Gamestop: 'Xbox has said that they do support' used games market

I noticed that he said Microsoft and Sony hmmmm. I guess Sony is doing something similar after all.

They'll both have games available digitally.....honestly I'm not seeing how people are misunderstanding this, there are clearly two completely separate questions being answered.

"Gamestop's approach to the Xbox One's nebulous pre-owned game policies – which may include charging players a fee for booting up a used game – involves emphasis on digital adaptation, and letting Microsoft do the talking.

"I figured that question would come up," Gamestop President Tony Bartel said during a financial call's Q&A segment. "Definitely Xbox has said that they do support the trade-in/resale games at retail and that they want to handle communication from this point forward on that. I think what is important to note is that all three of the consoles that have launched have now come back and they say, 'I realize the value of the buy-sell-trade model,' and they have built that into their new consoles moving forward. We anticipate that we are going to be able to leverage that, like we leverage it on the consoles today.""

That's about the DRM question and actually mentions that all three consoles have talked to him so he's not lumping Microsoft and Sony together but all three.

"Responding to another Xbox One question, Gamestop executives noted that its stores have systems for selling digital content, and they've sold digital products in the past.

"Digital content can be easily discovered," Bartel said. "We will actually work with Microsoft and we will work with Sony as they come out with – I guess what you would call 'non-gaming entertainment properties.' We'll be selling those in our store." Customers will be able to pay for this content with trade-in currency, other executives said."

This is about digital content...like it says.

I didn't misunderstand him. I'm just saying Sony is likely to do the same thing.

So you're basing this off the idea that the Gamestop guy mentioned Sony at some point?  I mean if this is entirely unrelated then sure, but I just don't see the logic in the relation between the gamestop guy's statement and your own.  Jay made a whole thread about this, and I'm just not seeing what you guys are I guess.  Is it just the idea that Sony was mentioned during this interview at all?  Because he mentions "all three" at one point so doesn't that mean he mentioned Nintendo as well and they'll likely do the same thing based on your logic?

Hey if Sony doesn't do some sort of pay wall for used games then more power to them I'll buy it over Xbox. Also I just have a feeling Sony is going to pull the same thing MS did.

If Sony is not doing the same thing then they need to come out now and nip this in the bud.

But I agree with Noble that the scent in the air is Sony following the same idea.

If it is true at least MS used game consumers won't be the only ones getting XBoned. j/k

The way I read it was that Sony has something that they are announcing at E3 that Game Stop knows about.  I honestly don't know what it means, that is why I'm asking.  Sony already admitted that publishers/developers are allowed to block used games.  They also dodged the questions after the X1 conference.  Likely they are doing the same or something similar.   http://www.examiner.com/article/sony-dodges-ps4-used-game-questions-3

Sony or not it's probably the last gen with physical media.... and for me it's already one too many gen.... I can't stand that pile of craptastic plastic box.... versatile disk is probably the worst memory support since the punch card....

And the fee model is one that will attract rev and that will be adopted sooner or later across the board it's already happening anyway same goes with the always on.... get use to it... it will be more and more like that and it's a good thing whether you see it or not.... it will actually cut cost for everybody from the revs down to the customer... the only one that will lose money and it's still not a given are the middle man.... but the less packaging you have the less intermediary you have the more direct revenue to the devs the less it will cost for the end user for new games which is the bottom line for the industry....

Its my understanding that the internet requirements that ms are placing is to registerthe games to thhe user account... so since sSony isnt requiring online how can the enforce that? They already flat out denied needing a connection. Also, withoit a connection how would Sony even collect the fees. I doubt they are doing the same. At mist it will be an online code for multiplayer
