Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo would have given up on Fire Emblem saga if Awakening did not sell over 250k.

And think how much better its done because they can now soak bitches suckers fans like me with DLC.

It's not surprising that Fire Emblem sales got worse over time when you consider that FE11 and FE12 weren't new games, but remakes (of FE1 and FE3). FE12 being a slap in the face for fans, because everyone wondered why they didn't just take FE3 to begin with (the original release of FE3 included FE1).

But I like the threat that a game could be the last, because it motivated the developers to work harder. That should be applied to Zelda for once, because even though there is a formula that gets reused, the developers take ages to finish games and don't seem to care how good the final product is going to be, because they are going to work on another Zelda game anyway. Zelda is pretty much the only series at Nintendo that gets worked on constantly, everything else gets shuffled through and takes breaks.

Now where was I? Right, Fire Emblem. For the next game, ditch grinding.

I never understood that...

I just seems silly to me...

While the sales of Awakening in Japan alone are not nearly as incredible as the sales of FE3, keep in mind that there were also two Fire Emblem anime OVA's that came out at that time which definitely helped push sales...

If Nintendo really wanted Awakening to sell legendary numbers in Japan, they could have done this again...

Have a nice day...

The thing I love about Nintendo is that they didn't tell us this until just now.

If it was many other video game companies we would have been told before "If this game don't sell well were going to stop making them"

Man I'm tired of hearing that from dev's before a games release. When I hear that, I tend to not buy the game.

I just hope they can improve the battle system next time. Pair up's a neat feature but it breaks the game in a lot of ways.

My Ideal FE game would have FE8 wise story, FE13 characters, FE10 difficulty, and FE9 Maps. Not sure on battle system, but it won't be FE13's lol. Enjoyed it for a while but it gets chance based suuuper fast.

Awakening is clearly a gamechanger for Fire Emblem. There's a buzz and notoriety here that Fire Emblem has never had in the west. I think Awakening is the beginning of this becoming a definitive Nintendo franchise and joining the Nintendo big leagues of Mario, Zelda, Metroid and Pokemon. And even if it only becomes, like, a Kirby - that's still a big deal considering how obscure it used to be.

Calm yourself lol it hasn't outsold FE7 in NA yet. Maybe never will.

I actually think so too...

It might not be the best selling game in any region, but it has definitely elevated the player's expectations of the series...

It's not everyday that a turnbased strategy-RPG is lauded as or suggested to be the best game on its repective console...

Have a nice day...

I could imagine descending sales after 10 across 11 and 12. Shadow Dragon and New Mystery needed to be fuller remakes, mostly by re-writing the story. While NES-era gameplay mechanics still work fine, NES-era worldbuilding absolutely does not, and gamers certainly responded.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Well to be fair, Nintendo had been screwing the series for a while, not counting the fact that they only started releasing the titles outside of Japan within the last decade, the fact is that a majority of the games haven't had good promotion since Path of Radiance. They did good on Awakening actually getting some great reviews, a stellar demo and a actual commercial that managed to get the game a better reception then some of its predecessors.

Hopefully, they continue the stellar work and willingness to take chances that they showed in the development of Awakening.

Also... add some normal feet next time.

Kirby is bigger then Metriod, but Fire Emblem with another release like Awakening could probably earn itself a higher billing then Western faves like Star Fox or F-Zero.
