Plot synopsis with spoilers included or not? J.J. Abrams wanted to keep people guessing until they saw the movie, and he did deliver IMO. OT: Is Wrath of Khan worth a watch for someone that hasn't watched anything pre-2009 Star Trek? Or is it a direct sequel or something? |
Definitely worth a watch. As mentioned, the character Khan was in an episode of the original series, but it doesn't matter if you haven't seen it since the story is explained in the movie.
I like the Star Trek series and (some) movies, but I'm not a really huge fan or anything and yet The Wrath of Khan is one of my favorite movies of all time. I own it on blu-ray and it's great.
Actually I changed my mind this could make a bit more money then the 2009 movie as long as it does a bit better overseas. But since it has a budget that's $40 million dollars bigger then the 2009 movie it will not be as profitable unless it makes a lot more money then the 2009 movie.
Regarding the OP. I don't really think Star Trek Generations was wonderful. It was okay; but completely unsatisfying end for Captain Kirk.
Yes the Borg do come from the Delta Quadrant. To see the Borg at their best I recommend Star Trek Voyager the series; it delivers the Borg on every level.
Personally I don't really think JJ Abraham's gets Star Trek. He admitted he was never a fan of the tv series. The guy is great at doing special effects and stuff (which is hard to get wrong in this day and age), but anyone who's seen Into Darkness knows he basically went to Wrath of Kahn and copy and pasted the bits the fans love.
His films don't feel like reboots, but like rehashes to get box office numbers in.
What's the difference in nr of ticket sales?
What difference does the 3D markup make?

But, I thought Voyager was my favorite out of all the series. Too bad it was on UPN or it may have been much bigger. Instead regular people watched FOX and got DSN...... |
Voyager was my faviourite series as well. I think the reason I liked it so much is because they took Star Trek out of Starfleet teritory. They let it off its hinges so it wasn't too restricted by Starfleet rules and regualtions. A lot of peope didn't seem to like the female captian though, who I thought was actually really good.
Enterprise had it moments, but it was so boring because Archer was stoic like Jon Luc Parcard. The stories were just too restricted by the 'space exploration' mandate.
This new Star Trek seems to have gotten one main thing right which is the characterisations. The characters have relatable personalities, Kirk has charisma. Thats whats Star Trek dd need with its characters. But I think the storytelling is too simple to be Star Trek. Ultimately I feel its an action film in space that dosen't feature an intricately woven story. The galaxy is a big place, yet twice the most important planet has been Earth.
I've seen the box office totals you've posted. The film cost more to make than its predecessor so even if it does match Star Trek (2009) it might be less profitable. I think the key problem has been the 4 year absence of the crew of the Enterprise, and in defence it has been doing very well outside America apparently.

The problem with voyager was they still adhered to starfleet rules and regulations like they still were in starfleet territory, following the prime directive and all that. I think they could have done something more interesting, it was just more of the same, they played it too safe.
The next generation had a lot of great episodes as well, but Voyager had the advantage of being in the unknown. No boring diplomacy missions to get in the way. Year of hell, The killing game, Scorpion, actually pretty much all 2 part episodes are better then the movies.
I also love Stargate universe (cancelled grr). Exploring the unknown is always better then diplomacy, revenge, war themes. (I did fast forward the back on earth crap though)
God so mch of the OP is just completely off base. Spock didnt evolve the ability to fly, he used jet powered boots.
It wasnt God. That was stated. It was a powerful being though who pretended to be God. I guess the part about What does God need with a Starship was missed while you were crying over something trivial.
Nm I cant read anymoreof that dribble. Yeah dude Kirk died inthe Nexus. That's why his body was o a planet with Captain Picard 75 years or so after he went in? Come on dude that was in the freaking movie.
Have you ever actually watched a Star Trek movie or did you just go read reviews/Youtube videos because I dont think you got a single thing right about any of the movies.
