isnt windows 8 kind of designed for pads or am i just being old fashioned,i mainly stay in desktop but it is not as if i have lots of media and photos and stuff on this laptop yet

It's the Birdman Fallacy for tablet UI. If we make everything look like Apple, it'll get Apple $$$.

Just stay in the Desktop as much as possible. You can't have both the new UI and the taskbar at the same time.

There is an new update called Windows 8.1 coming soon. Think of it like the old Service Packs. It should enable a few more Windows 7 like features but not all of them.

I've read that the early builds just brought back a Start button for the desktop that takes you back to the Metro UI. I'll be disappointed if they decide not to add the classic Start menu or at least the option to boot to the desktop. Just give people options to get exactly what they want already.

A comprehensive FAQ for Windows 8:

Q: (Insert any question here)
A: Uninstall Windows 8 and Install Windows 7

Sounds like MS's response for anything XP-related these days.

I seriously hope it's more tha just a Metro redirect.   Tha would be quite disappointing on an already disappointing OS.

I don't get how the hell they expected this new UI to work for anything but touchpads.   Had they established 2 separate but integrated OS's...one for desktop/worklstation/office and one for touchpads, Win 8 would be great.  But they didn't.   Far worse than the Vista launch in my opinion.

Lol there is really nothing wrong with metro if you have a touchscreen... People should learn to accept changes.

It is bad change though. Microsoft have admitted it too so they are bringing out 8.1.

yeah it would have been cool if my finger grease wasn't starting to accumlate on the screen resulting in me having to clean it all the time, and I'm not putting a screen protector on a 15.6 inch screen, fuck that shit. Not to mention since my laptop runs in 1080p, somethings are small as shit to touch with, and if I make them bigger, I loose screen space. WTF was MS thinking? Oh right it's Steve fucking Ballmer, duh!

There is literally nothing wrong with Windows 8. Use it like Windows 7, but with some useful Metro apps occasionally (I basically just use Netflix and Skype). It just has much better keyboard shortcuts than 7

But personally, I just launch up Chrome and use it in the same way. Either click on the link on the start menu, type "windows button - chr - enter" (depending on what programmes you have installed) or click in the bottom left corner of the screen. You can also just press enter straight after getting to the start menu if you put the desktop link in the top left on the menu

Windows 8 has no negative effect on my productivity. If someone could actually explain what is wrong with Windows 8 then I would be very grateful. I don't understand the negative press

Try being a power user.   It can be a pain in the ass.

Much of the negativiety comes from the simple removal of features and the lack of the ability to jump straight into the Dekstop from boot.
