Most lovable is Drake for me lol. Influential I have no idea.

Drake is probably one of the first well written and personable characters I've seen in a long time. He's definitely going to be with us for a while.

Yeah he is my favorite game character of all time.

Well 4 of the characters mentioned above is not even a new IP for starters.

Influential character? None. Characters all have different personalities. Games would be different.

best characters, maybe GlaDos or Wheatley from portal. Maybe even Shephard.

?

influence [ˈɪnflʊəns]

n
1. an effect of one person or thing on another
2. the power of a person or thing to have such an effect
OT: I would say Drake, because he is pretty much the only character that other devs have mentioned as a direct influence to their game.

Characters have been designed throughout all of life pretty much the same.  Some will be remembered while others is not.  It all depends on acting and story telling.

If thats the case then why is Super Mario famous?

simple, the gameplay and because he is immediately recognizable. Same goes to things such as Angry Birds.

Exactly and every generation has some intangible that causes stand out characters. His point for Nathan Drake is that he set the standard for how Character driven action/adventure titles are made hence why so many devs are creating their games off of the Uncharted model.

It's a character that fits in the world of uncharted.  That is good storytelling and voice acting.  It isn't really influential.  The game it's self was influential but characters will always be different in every game.  You cant make a character exactly the same.  It is a vision.

SMH....Cole Macgrath is the way he is now because of Nathan Drake and so is Lara croft. The character development of Nathan Drake is teaching other adventure game makers that is very important to selling a new character in the current gen. I used Mario as an example of a character who started the building block concept in gaming. Gaming has evolved now to the point where character development matters. No character needs to be the same, but give them different sides to themselves a breathe life into their character and people will stick with them. Ezio Auditore was very similar in approach even though after the cinematics we became disconnected with him.

lololol Read my edit.  Lara Croft is nothing like drak character wise.  If so please explain how there origin and personality is similar? The game is similar but characters are completely different.  Cole Macgrath is also nothing like drake.

I never said she was. Naughty Dogs cinema quality script focusing on character development was what they tried to use to bring Lara back to life. The new lara isnt like the old one. Cole Macgrath doesn't need to be like drake, but we know who he was as a person because they used the character development which Uncharted popularized. I am sure they will use a similar method of for the character relationships and character development in Last of Us. It will have equally as much drama and suspense as action.

Character development has been around way before Uncharted. Decades and centuries actually.  And even decades in games.  As I said before, none of these characters are similar to one another.

I don't think any of these characters have been hugely influential in and of themselves (the IPs they're in and the storytelling methods used in said IPs, probably). But I'd go with either Drake or Commander Shepard. The former because Nolan North is now officially everywhere, and the latter because certain RPGs have already adopted similar approached to lead characters (Alpha Protocol anyone?)

I understand this completely, but the way uncharted used character development and character relationships changed the way many look at action/adventure games. Gears of War also did this in a comical fashion. Cliff Bleszinski doesn't like to take credit for the cinematic direction of Gears but he owns up to it as well.

I dunno if it influenced games, but the Mii's definitely did influence Xbox Live and PSN characters.

Miis! Really it is the only answer that makes sense.

in a word: unchartedization

How is Batman a new IP?

If we're talking about the character specifically, I think it's obviously Mii. Microsoft cemented this by saying "Mii too" and making Avatars. Miis and Avatars were playable characters in many of the best-selling games on their respective consoles. They all look different, but they are instantly recognizable by their shared style.

Again, not the games themselves. The character(s).
