Forums - Gaming Discussion - Activision Says Next Xbox And PlayStation 4 Could Face The Same Challenges As Wii U

Sony already have this kind of challenge with PS3... so they are used to that.

The quote is a few days old. And I agree with him, and it does mirror what EA has been saying recently. The conditions are less than favorable. The die hards will buy the new console but after that is a question of when will the rest of the core and then casuals adopt. If the last 3 major launches are any indication it will take awhile, and aggressive measures by the manufacture for each console to get to a healthy level where it will not hurt the bottom line as much to transition from one generation to the next. I expect this process to take a year or so longer then last gen, where we will see major third party support for the older consoles well into 2015.

Yep I expect that to happen but I dont think software will be as much as a issue for them as the Wii-U l0l.

Maybe..  I figure it make take a year or so until massive system selling ips arrive on those platforms.  I'm not expecting Halo, Gear, God of War, Grand Tourismo, Uncharted ect ect in their launch windows.

I think what Sony and Microsoft will have trouble with is finding the perfect cost, 400 dollars is a bit much for todays economy.

With the economy as it is today, even 300 might be to much for most consumers.

In the wilderness we go alone with our new knowledge and strength.

no way, unless third parties decide they don't want to release games for console anymore, you can't have 3 failures on the market at the same time

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

It's mostly the core gamers that buy a console at launch, I don't think tablets are going to dissuade them.
However with both heavy hitters coming out at the same time I expect more fence sitters this time. You might as well wait and see what happens before making a final choice. There's still plenty to keep you busy on current gen consoles.

So I agree with what he's saying, they will struggle. They'll be selling below 100k a week, and somewhat below the current gen systems also. Will they fall as low as Wii U? That has yet to be seen, but is unlikely. However, at that point the Wii U will have a foothold in the market with a lower cost and a decent library of games, so it will have a recovery and be selling somewhat better than it is now, and better than the other systems most likely.

But then obviously the other systems will bounce back as well. Growing pains aren't unusual (unless you're the Wii), but because of the length of this gen, it'll be harder than usual for most to move on.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

There already are 3 failures on the market now: PS3, PSP, and Vita.
