Forums - Gaming Discussion - Activision Exceeds Expectations In First Quarter 2013

Activision is off to a good start to its 2013 fiscal year. The publisher touted strong, but still declining numbers for World of Warcraft, and continued the impressive performance of November's Call of Duty: Black Ops II.

Skylanders and Call of Duty remain the top two best-selling franchises for North America and Europe combined. Of important note, Call of Duty saw a 100 percent year-over-year increase in digital revenue. Paired with EA's success in digital as reported yesterday, that segment continues to expand at significant speed.

World of Warcraft subscriptions are down, but moreseo in the East. It remains the top-subscribed MMO with 8.3 million subscribers, down from over 10 million in October

GAAP net revenues were reported at $1.32 billion against a projection of $1.16 billion and same-quarter 2012 of $1.17 billion. Non-GAAP net revenues were $804 million against a projection of $690 million and same-quarter 2012 performance of $587 million.

We'll have more soon, as Activision is beginning its quarterly earnings call shortly.

Isn't Sim City only digital? I'm mean is only for PC and very few companies make physical copies of exclusive PC games nowadays so it makes sense.

Nintendo and PC gamer

Item to note from their financials is there is currently only six games scheduled for 2013.

DLC for BLops2
COD Ghosts
Skylanders SWAP
WOW expansion
Diablo 3 for PS3
... and something else I can't remember.

Of course the COD and Skylanders games are more than enough for them to be profitable this year. They're also coming to all platforms so they'll make tons of money.

no clue how it's in other countries but here in germany you can buy pc games on every corner so yes, companies still make pc retail versions at least for germany. and ea said half of the 1.6 million sold sim city were digital sales so 800k retail.

but even without sim city the fifa and cod numbers show a 100% increase in only one year which is a lot (at least percentual, no clue about the units)

Man Skylanders is like the new Trading cards.

No wonder Disney's looking to get into that market. (Or Nintendo but we don't know what Nintendo's thinking of doing....lol)

http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/profile/92109/nintendopie/ Nintendopie  Was obviously right and I was obviously wrong. I will forever be a lesser being than them. (6/16/13)

Surprised on how WoW is down so much.

This newest patch is quite awesome PvE wise, in fact this expansion is the bomb.

Man, World of Warcraft continues to impress.

Despite the huge drop in subs that number is still gigantic. Its quite amazing how a now 8 Year old MMO can continue to hold so many subscribers despite huge competition from popular free to play MMO's.

Activision will survive the AAA crash. Not EA though.
