Easily... yeah... any bet for you be happy. CoD is a bigger franchise than GTA. |
Give me a couple days to think of one.

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (PS2): 16.15m
Call of Duty: Black Ops II (X360 + PS3): 22.17m
The playerbase for this gen is split between two consoles.
GTA
Playstation = The Beast from the East
Sony + Nintendo = WIN! PS3 + PSV + PS4 + Wii U + 3DS
Soundwave said: I think GTA is going to show more of a decline. It's an *old* franchise now and curiosity factor of seeing it with PS3/360 graphics is also gone. GTA's peak was 9-10 years ago. It'll still sell well, but I don't think it'll have the same legs as previous games. Even CoD is getting up there in age, but I think it still has one or two more yearly refreshes left in the tank before people start going elsewhere. |
Exactly! The novelty of driving round a "living, breathing" city has gotten old.
I wish Mafia II was linear because I was bored out of my skull driving from one mission to another.
dsage01 said: Both games will be the best selling games of 2013 and no game will be able to come close to it...but the real question is which game will sell more. COD gas had some major competition since 2010 but which none came close to it. Here are sales of big competitiors when comapred to COD on the 360. 2010:

Here is a chart of MW2 vs GTA 4 (360 versions)
But it is important to note that GTA IV came in spring but MW2 came in holiday season with a far bigger install base for the 360 and PS3. This time there both coming in holiday seasons (well sort of). However if we compare the biggest GTA game vs the biggest Cod game...GTA dominates
If the 360 or PS3 version (It looks like the PS3 version has a better chance) of GTA sells anywhere near those numbers than it looks tough for COD to compete especially since Black Ops II looks like it won't outsell MW2, BO or MW3... I expect the same decline for COD ghosts and GTA V only to be bigger than GTA IV at the very least due to the massive increase in install base since 2008. |
Are you going to ignore the PS3 version of MW3? You do know half the fanbase is on PS3 right? Where as with San Andreas pretty much most of the same were on the PS2.

People know this, thats why they restrict comparisons between GTA and COD to a single console to make GTA's numbers appear larger. It's dishonest.
MW3 sold just under 28 million on 360 + PS3. Who cares if its across two consoles? That's what this gen has been about.
