Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Xbox 720 is going to be killer.

Not really interested in kinect at all, but things like illumiroom have me excited.

Around the Network

I'm excited to see what's in store for the next Xbox. Yes, they are going to have shallow kiddie games for Kinect, but they'll also have core exclusives as well, including some new IP. Heck, maybe Ryse will turn out OK and show how you can make a core game for Kinect (and a new, improved one at that).

Just as important, 3rd parties will have no qualms about backing Microsoft like they have been with Nintendo. If Microsoft does drop the ball here or there, there are plenty of 3rd party games to keep me occupied in the meantime. Besides, it's not like I have enough money to buy all of Microsoft's games anyway, even if I was interested in all of them.

Why did he put Call of Duty in the article? It's not exclusive unless they're doing some timed DLC stuff(again).

opps sorry about the call of duty bit.

Now Imagine all those graphics in the following games:

Halo 5

Gears of war 4

Perfect Dark 2

Forza 5

Respawn Game

Ryse

and other unanounced games.

Now Imagine all those games having Kinect integration of some sort, where you use your voice or certain gestures for in-game commands.

Imagine being able to talk to NPC's and watching them listen to you or even react in a way you never thought they would.

Imagine playing with the new xbox controller and being able to seamlessly chat or video chat with friends through skype and even switching between friends

with a touch of a button.

There is a whole lot more on my mind, but I won't bother to elaborate. I am just really excited to see what Microsoft will show off.

Anyone that thinks Microsoft will drop the ball, haven't been paying attention.

May 21st can't come soon enough. 18 days Left.

Microsoft has already dropped the ball, knocked it into the ground and is now kicking it into a puddle. Their three big mistakes so far have been the price tag, the always online debacle, and their refusal to ever let Kinect just die peacefully. While I think the majority of Nintendo's approach toward the Wii U's launch was complete idiodicity, they at least got the whole "it's a gaming console, and not a living room family device" thing right and were able to lop off a hundred bucks or so. Microsoft seems so focused on making the X-Box a gaming console, a microwave, a coffee machine, and any other form of electronics you may use that they've lost track of how expensive they're making this thing. The $500 for a gaming system (yes, I know there's an option with X-Box Live, it comes out at even more expensive) is nuts. I'm guessing Microsoft didn't learn a lot from the PS3 launch (then again, it seems that Sony didn't either, considering that they're doing the exact same thing).

Always online is by far the worst of the three mistakes, and I shouldn't have to explain why. Diablo 3 and Sim City can explain it very well on their own.

Lastly, the amount that Microsoft is pushing Kinect is borderline ridiculous. The Wii was a failure for the most part, but it at least had some experiences that were actually better with Wii controls than they were/would have been with a standard controller (Metroid Prime 3, Okami, both Zeldas). I have yet to come across anything involved with Kinect that is actually better because of it, or anything that seems to remotely suggest that progress is being made.

As for physically talking to NPCs...no. Just no. One of the most advanced computers in the world, Watson (the one that appeared on Jeopardy) had barely begun to be able to understand human language. Not only that, but it actually couldn't understand it audibly (it had to have the questions fed through electronically). And, I might add, Watson takes up almost two whole floors of space. Don't think we're going to be getting that technology inside a console anytime soon.

I also might add that actually audibly talking to video game characters would just feel utterly ridiculous, but I suppose that's more of a issue of how much you care if people notice you talking to inanimate objects.

Now Imagine all those graphics in the following games:

Halo 5  - Another Halo?

Gears of war 4  - Not interested after all the Locust die in 3

Perfect Dark 2 - Not Announced, but after the lackluster Perfect Dark Zero, does anyone care?

Forza 5 - Hopefully not in 2013, I still have to beat FM4 and Horizon, I'm saturated.

Respawn Game  - Childrens Company

Ryse - Wasn't this suppose to be a 360 game? I'm not getting excited twice, lets see a release date first

and other unanounced games.

Now Imagine all those games having Kinect integration of some sort, where you use your voice or certain gestures for in-game commands.  - I know, scary

Imagine being able to talk to NPC's and watching them listen to you or even react in a way you never thought they would. - I'd rather not talk to AI, and doesn't Kinect only recognize a few hundred words?

Imagine playing with the new xbox controller and being able to seamlessly chat or video chat with friends through skype and even switching between friends  - Why would I video chat while playing a game? Can I call my friends cell phone, no, so this is pointless.

Anyone that thinks Microsoft will drop the ball, haven't been paying attention.

I have been, and it's all sequels and Kinect. I'm sick of sequels, I don't want to play a "new" game from the same series every couple years, or even every year (in the case of Halo). I want to play something different every year, and at minumum, come back to the same game in 3 years. This way there can actually be some differences between iterations (I think Forza 4 was a step backward, that's how quick it was developed).

As for Kinect, I really don't care. Only a handful of Wii games really utilized the Wii-mote to enhance gameplay (Skyward Sword and Metroid Prime 3 come to mind), and the rest were conventional games. With PS4 a mirror system to the 720, most games will not be designed from the ground up to enhance gameplay using Kinect, and no driving without a wheel, with autobrake/gas is not "enhancing" Forza.

---

That's my 2 cents as a 360 owner. Loved the system for 4-5 years, then got tired of the massive amount of sequels, XBLG, sudden abandonment of JRPG exclusives, and the random shift to Kinect games which requires an add on, which costs nearly as much as the system.

I am excited to hear what Microsoft has to offer. I am certain that they are at least going to try to cater to everybody with their new offerings, which means yes, there will be Kinect games (because not everybody thinks it's poorly integrated like some users seem to) and yes there will be "hardcore games" because I can't see Microsoft alienating 1 audience just to get more of another.

I'm not going to watch the conference with any expectations though because going in thinking that they'll announce a lot of different specific IPs is asking for the conference to be disappointing.

I hope so I'm slowly starting to want to flip camps again and go with Sony for the majority of this upcoming gen.
