Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo not holding traditional E3 press conference this year?

Yay! What the WiiU needed! Less exposure! -_-

How could this mean less exposure? Surely quantity > quality!

havent we learned anything about rumors this week.

This isn't a rumor. Iwata said it directly. There will be no big E3 press event from the Nokia or Kodak Theater for Nintendo this year as there has been in past years.

The theater space would almost assuredly have to have been booked by now, guess Nintendo simply opted against it.

Terrible idea, Wii U is already starved for publicity.
Still, at least now there's hope we won't have to wait a month and a half just to find out about upcoming Wii U games. The sooner the better.

I doubt it, there still will be closed press/distributor events at E3, so Nintendo will likely make us wait the same amount of time, lol.

They want the E3 press, they just don't want to pony up to rent the giant theater. That and maybe they feel like they're going to get blown out by the Sony/MS hype machine anyway.

You can pick some hopeful signs out of that, though i rather dislike the idea as it will only feed the impression that Nintendo is a lesser competitor

What he seems to acknowledge is that much of the frustration surrounding previous E3s over the last five years or so (and a problem endemic to all of the big three) is that E3 struggles between its dualities as a trade show (business-oriented) and the fact that it's become a gamer carnival of sorts. By dividing attention they can market the business-oriented stuff directly to the crowd most interested in that, and then optimize the impact of software announcements and gameplay exposure to the masses.

Makes me wonder if i should bother taking time off, though. My job is going to suck absolute ass that week, as they completely ban all internet access outside of government websites (although, stupidly, they allow you to go on these ostensibly forbidden websites, all while running their most sensitive information on Internet Explorer's Java plugin)

I'm rather starting to dislike how you spread consistent negativity in threads about Nintendo.

THANK GOD! E3 is bullshit propaganda just as those stupid VGA.

I don't care as long as they announce the games they are developing
And the games will still be playable for the press at E3, so we'll have info about them.

Good idea. E3 is mostly for rabbid fanboys that want to gloat on the internetz. We really don't need them, we'll get a massive lineup of AAA titles by the end of the year regardless of what they say.

"Wii are legion, for Wii are many"

This hurts Nintendo's image more than anything else. We 'core' gamers know Nintendo is still doing stuff (and great stuff imo) with the Nintendo directs. But this will simple create a massive amount of negative press.

I'm imaging dozens of article and posts mentioning this line "Nintendo is not trying anymore", I warranty this line will be all over the internet is just a matter of weeks.
