Forums - Sony Discussion - Witcher 3 Dev: PS4 Is A High End PC, CD Projekt Happy With New Architecture

Correct.

Simple reason for this, PCI-E and the SLI/Crossfire bridge doesn't have the bandwidth or latency required in order to share the memory contents on each card for one big fat giant memory pool.
However, if you go farther back in the cache hierachy, aka System Ram, the GPU's can all share the same memory before it gets sent off to each GPU, which is what is important for compute tasks.

However, with that said despite the memory pools having duplicated information, SLI/Crossfire still manages almost 100% scaling in dual GPU gaming scenarios, compute is a whole different ball game however.

So in the end, even though I have in total 9Gb of GDDR5 memory, only 3Gb of that is useable by games, the whole 9Gb however is available for compute. :)

Are you saying if I had two Titan with 6GB GDDR5 each they will use only 3GB for games? I thought it was 6GB (from the 12GB combined).

Thanks BTW.

No. I have 3 graphics cards.

If you have 2x Titans each with 6Gb of Ram, you would have 12Gb of GDDR5 Ram in your PC in total, however only 6Gb of that is available for games as each cards 6Gb of memory has the exact same data as the card sitting next to it and so on.

What's wrong with that? The PC has the best graphics and the highest performance available, it's only natural for that technology to filter down into cheaper platforms.

Unless you're being sarcastic, what did you want? It will still house all PlayStation IPs, but with much more efficiency than the PS3. It's a win-win situation.

For me it is lose - lose. More multiplatforms, less exlusives, no more Playstation magic.. no more great comebacks like TLoU and Beyond in 7th year of life cycle... and much much more.. For me it means console will life fast die young, what I hate.

You're speaking FAR too prematurely about things you couldn't have even predicted for PS3 in 2005/06.

Where I am wrong ? More multiplatforms, less exclusives is just match - of course I count only AAA titles.Xbox, PS, PC exclusives are goin multiplat and nothing will stop it - only Sony and MS first party. PC architecture will be easy to use for developers - for me it means that they will get the top of PS4's power in 2 - 3 years after launch, not in 7. Isn't this mean console life cycle will be short ? The only hope is 8 RAM, but I am afraid that PS4 games will be nothing amazing in 2017, at least for me. U know, no more nuclear bomb like Halo 4, The Last of US, Beyond so late in this gen.

I showed Ground Zeroes, The Last of Us, Beyond, Halo 4 to my friends and brothers - they were all amazed and they were sure these games are high end PC games

It's not about being wrong, you're just speaking very prematurely about, practically, everything.

I dont think his being sacastic one bit, just ask all the Sony fans that use to say the same thing about the Xbox when it launched "Its notting but a PC" etc etc etc.

Funny how times change imo .

But i always seen this coming and i also see where gaming is heading just a great time to be a PC Gamer imo .

This.
Sad but true.

It was inevitable and is a good move. PS3 was so much different from a PC and the only result of that is that multiplats look worse on PS3 and we didn't get some games - like The Witcher 2. CD Projekt RED said clearly, that the only reason it's only on PC and X360 is cause they are unable to develop it for the PS3.

This will make developing games easier and will only work in our favour. The next gen is going to be short anyway, if you wanted it to last as long as this one, PS4 would have to cost between $600-800 and nobody would buy it.

Wii U is a GCN 2 - I called it months before the release!

My Vita to-buy list: The Walking Dead, Persona 4 Golden, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, TearAway, Ys: Memories of Celceta, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, History: Legends of War, FIFA 13, Final Fantasy HD X, X-2, Worms Revolution Extreme, The Amazing Spiderman, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate - too many no-gaemz :/

My consoles: PS2 Slim, PS3 Slim 320 GB, PSV 32 GB, Wii, DSi.

So u agree with me - more multiplats, shorter console life cycle. Nothing more to buy a new, good PC.

If you don't care about Sony's first party offerings and ready to invest more than the presumably 400-500$ that PS4 will launch at then probably yes.

So it is happening...PS4 preorder.

Greatness Awaits!
