I still think the 3ds will outsell the DS in its lifetime.

I see, you're a government worker.

3DS is doomed!! I mean seriously why would anyone get an under powered handheld largely focused on 3D. 3D is just a stupid gimmick everyone. Nintendo is the most out of touch company on the planet. Why would they even think about releasing a console with only 1 circle pad. Didn't they realize that the majority of Mario games would benefit from a second circle pad. I mean shit... how are we going to play the new top down Zelda with only 1 circle pad!!!! NO!!!!! Nintendo have no idea how anything in the video game business works.

Yeah But DS lite came in 3rd year. Nintendo needs another revision.

The DS Lite launched in about the 20th month, so it came in the second year. Peope forget that the DS took a long time to really take off in the USA.

That's because it was going head-to-head with the PSP.

Not even. It's because the more popular games started to trickle in and the DS Lite model appeared much later, and the sales grew once the system was strong in terms of hardware (design/remodel), pricing and library.

People do forget that the US was slow to adopt the DS as well. It has nothing to do with Nintendogs, or the PSP, or anything else mentioned. Nintendo handhelds lag behind by about a year in the west. This is largely due to Pokemon, which is a year behind in releases. While Japan got its last DS pokemon in 2011, the west saw B&W2 release last year. DS ate a lot of potential 3DS sales with having lots of games and such a cheap price.

This year we should see a much better transition to 3DS from DS, about a year slower than Japan, just as it was with DS last gen.
