Yeah, precisely that. I'm sorry for being insensitive of the Boston tragedy; it's a terrible thing to happen to innocent civilians on a beautiful day. But theres much worse things that deserve attention in the world. I just pity a population who "sends their prayers" to whomever TV news stations and social media suggests is popular to do. If you sincerely want to send your prayers, you'll host a candle light vigil for those who died. Posting on social media doesn't do a damn thing. Again, IMO, situations in the Middle East, Israel, Venezula, Egypt, Greece are far more devastating, and you don't see anyone "sending their prayers." Whatever is popular gets attention. I apologize if I offended anyone.

I feel you're missing the point and not really understanding. People can only empathize for what they know and understand. Many people are still ignorant to the details of ongoings around the world. Even further, most can't relate to things or places they've never been or seen before. Every American has seen pictures or movies of Boston, it's a place that is identifiable for all. An tragedy there will be far more impactful than the far worse situations around the world. I don't the severity of the issue should cause such a cyncial response.
While I'm no fan of people using social media when trying to actually do anything, but with a lot of people, it's the only way they know how to use whatever voice they have. I would hope that people are not doing to gather attention, but to turn attention to what has happened. I can not criticize people for that.
