Forums - Sony Discussion - GT5 vs real life, help me I don't know what is real!

I don't like how the karts handle as for the NASCAR cars I suck at drafting and tuning haven't won one NASCAR event yet.

Are you using a wheel? On controller I have a lot of trouble because you can make any mistake in NASCAR events and the controler is not that sensitive... some parts you have just to press just a little the directional to stay on the best track for win the race... on wheel you just mantain it the right position withou trouble and change to make the perfectly the turns.

I finish the NASCAR events with both controller and wheel... well I think the last I can't finish it with the controller.

Anyway I always use both to see the difference but the whell is a must to have... a lot of things I learned in GT with wheel I used in real-life in some cars and works... it is fantastic the feel to remember how you learned in GT to make in the real-life (I just try simple things... nothing dangerous).

I you alreadu drive cars in real-life the use of wheel in GT5 will be intuitive.

PS. Most guys here never tried to use a wheel in GT5... neither in Forza 4 so I think most hate come due that... wheel changes everything.

PS2. The way you make the turns and the path you stay in the track is different when you use a wheel and a controller... there are some turns you can't do with controller in the same way you do with wheel... seems like two different games (you have to learn to drive with controller).

PS3. The video I posted before the profissional is driving with a wheel... it is impossible to drive in that way with a controller.

Forza 4 can't be compared to GT5 graphically.

GT5 is 1080p.

Forza 4 is 720p.

And Forza still looks 'comparable'.

If the PS3 was rendering GT5 at 720p, the amount of detail and effects it could produce would make Forza 4 look like a Wii game.

GT5 is 1280x1080 not 1920x1080.

Forza 4 is locked at 60FPS.

Forza 4 doesnt have any massive screentearing.

Forza 4 cars are treated equally.

Forza 4 visuals are more consistent.

lol looks to me like this thread got responces from just about every xbox fan on this site

It fine to see xbox fans playing GT5 instead others games... just shows how the GT5 is important to they even buy a PS3.

That is the main reason GT5 keep selling year after year .

This is rich coming from a guy who was calling Halo 4 a failure the other day.

This really matter for you guys? Ok.

Resolution

Forza Motorsport 4 = 1280x720 (4xAA in time trial, 2xAA otherwise, 4x in car viewing etc.)
Gran Turismo 5 = 1280x720 (4xAA), 1280x1080 (QAA, TAA selectable), 1280x720 (QAA) in 3D mode

In normal races GT5 runs in 1280x720 (4xAA) or 1280x1080 (QAA, TAA selectable) - the native screen of your HDTV is what define the resolution (1080p support the second... up to 1080i the first). Forza 4 always run in 1280x720 (2xAA) in normal races.

Framerate

GT5 runs at 30fps in non-control parts (box, race start, etc) and 60fps for any gamer control part... the framerate is stable with little drops to 55fps (it hardly go below that)... that is in the v1.0... the fixes patchs put the framerate almost locked like Forza 4... the game have some bad framerate drops in 3D.

The video below is from the early versions of GT5... there little framerate drops don't hapen anymory in the latest versions.

http://www.eurogamer.net/videos/gran-turismo-5-frame-rate-analysis

Screen Tearing

I think the guys need to play the game again because it never had massive screentearing... in fact the screen tearing happened because the little framerate drop that happened in early versions.

Cars

And? This is a subject that just haters complain... the Premium ones are fantastics for everything else... and the MOST IMPORTANT PART OS A SIMULATION GAME the standards cars plays differente from the others too... so the graphics can be lower but the driving physicas are top notch for all cars.

Visual

At it best GT5 is untouchable... at it worst the game seens like any other racing game in the market... overall the you can't say the game is bad because it visual... the visual is one of the best already saw in this generation and in some case the best one for any racing game in the console market.

Now you talk about Forza 4 be more consistent? Bullshit... the Forza 4 graphic engine downgrade the graphics of the cars when the number of the cars in the screen increase... 16 cars races shows ungly cars in Forza 4... less cars shows the best of the graphic engine.

So please make a better research before to talk about CONSISTENT because Turn 10 make some controversial decisions to develiver what Forza 4 delivers... to have a locked framerate they sacrificed the graphics with 16 players in the track.

PLUS (WHAT REALLY MATTER)

"The pseudo-simulation handling model still feels right in a way that surpasses just about anything else out there - Forza 3 is strikingly close as a very different, but competitive drive but certainly in terms of the pseudo-simulation niche of the market, few games handle as well as GT."

It is not about consoles anymore... it is about PC and everything else... few games handle as well as GT5... what matter for racing sim fans is about the best created in the franchise and on pair with the top simulations in PC.

PLUS (FORZA 3 > FORZA 4)

Forget graphics, forget the game itself and focus only in driving simulation... Forza 4 lost a little of the magic that came with Forza 3 in this quesite... I guess (IMO) Turn 10 have to make some concerms in the driving physics, AI engine, graphics engine (dynamic look of the cars) to can make the game run with 16 players locked in 60 fps... the AI is the most dumb alreay created in a racing sim after one of the best of Forza 3 (GT5 just came close to Forza 3 in AI terms after the update 1.12 or 1.13 if I remember and even so the Forza 3 is a little better in AI)... the driving physis lost a little of the simulation to make the things more funny for the casual gamers.

In terms of simulation the Forza 3 is a better game than Forza 4... I think more easy to compare Forza 3 with GT5 than Forza 3.

For now the apice of the franchis (for a simulatior gamer) was Forza 3... I think Turn 10 can work on what makes Forza 3 better and add the new good things in Forza 4 to start do make the new game for Nextbox... I'm wating something really good coming from that if the downgraded thinkgs in Forza 4 was just about the lack of power of the generation.

See ya guys.

That was what you understood? Oh God give me patiance...

Halo 4 SP is great and the sales proves the success of it... but the Halo 4 MP is dying and I don't know why... my opnion is because the Halo 4 MP is worst than Halo 3/Halo 2 (I really think that)... the system, the amps, the ranking is a stepback in relation to previous Halo's MPs.

Everybody is talking about how Halo 4 MP is dead... the new DLC Maps (the best maps released in Halo 4) just increase the peak population per day from 30k to 40k and now after three days the peak population is decreasing again... it is the worst population for a Halo game in this generation even the Halo fans are saying the playlists have little activity compared to previous Halos.

So Halo 4 MP seems to be a failure? Yes (IMO)... the Halo 4 SP is a failure? No (fact).

In little time we will know if the Halo 4 MP is a failure or not... the decrease is abysmal for the franchise.

Now do you understand?

You can try dodge, side-steping all you want because GT5 aint as great looking as you are making it out to be.

Dodge? Did you read what I wrote? Most of your afirmations are wrong... the most notable case is the "more consistent visuals" becasue Forza 4 drops the cars graphics to not unlock the 60fps... the game graphcis became to decrese the quality after 12 players and get worst with 16 players.

I love how Forza fans see the impefection the the other franchise and didn't look at own game... GT5 have issues and any GT5 fans knows that... even so the game is yet a must to have.

Sadly I'm like most people I play all my racing games this gen with a controller.  I also must admit despite playing then a lot I'm not that good in racing games for example I played all the Forza games that I have played (Forza Horizon and 2&3) on the easiest difficulty with all the assists turned on except auto braking (which makes the game just too easy).

aaaaaaaaaand you fell for it.

Shows how defensive you are even though it was completely unnecessary.

What the point of your gif? Because the game looks ugly even in TVs.

Did you even read through the thread ? It's completely obvious as it has been already mentioned several times.

low res gif can be deceiving. It's easy to tell the difference between real life and GT5 on a big screen and it's easy to see that PGR4 doesn't quite look like that gif.

I own GT5 and I know that it can look great but I also know that it can look like a PS2 game.

Yeap... gifs looks worst than the graphcs on TV... I agree.

And the gifs in the OP are easy GT5 ones... there is no way you can compare with real-life.

Bolded: Do you really said that?

The Meish Meister

Standard cars on the other hand, are pretty much directly ported from the PS2 GT4. These older models however, have mainly just had a new paint material shader added to them to give the impression they are premium cars. However just by viewing them you can clearly see these are PS2 era models as seen below, although this image is perhaps one of the worst standard models.

As you can clearly see, the use of alphas for the wheel arches, alloys and windows clearly show that this is a ps2 model, not including the extremely low polygon count. these cars unfortunately take up about 80% of the total car list which is quite a substantial amount.
